Note*

Finley Patterson Curtis, in a letter to Harlow D. Curtis, listed a daughter named Emeline, who married James Blair and had daughters Harriet and Julia. An Ancestry family tree by Gayle Phillips lists a daughter Martha Emeline, wife of James Blair, with those daughters also. Neither includes Martha Ann who married James Harrison and is buried in the Curtis Family Cemetery,which most researchers believe was Joshua and Margaret's daughter. The death certificate of Harriet E. Phillips (1933, Sp;otsylvania, VA) reveals her maidenname as Blair, daughter of James Blair and Emeline Coffee, not Emeline Curtis. Martha Ann Harrison is buried at the Curtis Family Cemetery, which argues that she was a Curtis; however, that still leaves the unanswered question of why Finley Patterson Curtis didn't follow this logic.^4,5

Note

Finley Patterson Curtis named two sons, John and Carrol, stating that both died in the Civil War, never married. I filnd no record for a Carrol Curtis, but there are records for John C. Curtis, who died in the Civil War. Perhaps he was John Carroll Curtis, who Finely divied into two.⁴

Rebecca Elmira's obituary was published in the Christian County Republican on 9 March 1933:
Curtis: Rebecca Elmira Curtis was born in Caldwell County, North Carolina on April 25, 1852 and died March 6, 1933, age 80 years, 10 months and 11 days. She was married to Richard A. Greene on Feb. 14, 1869. To this union were born 5 children, Alice, Milton, Roby, Horace and Richard. The husband and three of the children preceded her in death.
Those surviving are Roby G. Greene, Hollywood, Cal., and Horace G. Greene of Glade Valley, No. Carolina, also two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Minnie Greene and Mrs. Geneva Greene, 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was converted at the age of 14 and united with the Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at the Hopedale Baptist Church Tuesday, March 7, Rev. Ross Carter officiating. Burial was in the Hopedale Cemetery under direction of B.C. Klepper.⁵
