Death Certificate states Jaundice and Malaria.
Medical Information: She died from the measles according to family history.
Note: Family recollections and passed down stories indicate that Nettie was a school teacher and taught the boys at home in their early years. I have been unable to verify this with any school district authorities but turn of the century record keeping leaves some to be desired. She was described as a beautiful woman. An interesting note is that Solomon Curtis, Nettie's father, served in the Second Arkansas Infantry, during the Civil War, with Adam Hyatt, the uncle of William Hyatt, her husband.2,4

William Franklin Hyatt

M, b. 18 October 1843, d. 2 February 1916
Last Edited30 Jun 2006
Birth*William Franklin Hyatt was born on 18 October 1843 at Missouri
Marriage*He married Elizabeth B. (Nettie) Curtis, daughter of Solomon Curtis and Sarah Elizabeth Hickey, circa 1893 at Arkansas.1
Death*William Franklin Hyatt died on 2 February 1916 at Millett, McIntosh, Oklahoma, at age 72;
William was a horse trader. He moved around a lot between Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. One of the "family stories" is that he traded a rifle for his first wife Elizabeth, an American Indian. This story may in fact be true because in later years it is told that his son, James Franklin Hyatt, was eligible for land under the Indian settlements, but declined to accept any because of the stigma, at the time, of being part Indian. William enlisted in the Union Army. He was in Company C, 1st Arkansas Infantry. His rank never rose above Private. His brother Charles was in the 1st Arkansas Cavalry as a bugler. Also in Williams unit was John Clayborn, his brother-in-law and James
Sumpter, the son of his mother Samantha's second cousin John Sumpter, a Justice Of The Peace in Newton County Arkansas. In 1880 William lived in Franklin County Arkansas with his wife Elizabeth, his daughter Anna, and his son Franklin. They were in Prairie Township,
listed on Page 827 of the Census Record. In 1900 we find William on the Census for the Choctaw Nation in Oklahoma. He is now married to Elizabeth "Nettie" Curtis and they have a daughter name Lillie, and sons named Hardy and Jessie L. (Leonard). On September 4th, 1915, William went before a Notary in Pauls Valley, Garvin County, Oklahoma and completed a Declaration for Pension. He was filing as a soldier in the Civil War. In the declaration he said that he was enrolled in Fayetteville, AR under the name of Bill Hyatt in July 1863. He said he was discharged in March 1864 in Jenny Lind, AR. He states that he is 82 years of age and was born October 8, 1832 in Missouri. We know this is in error because his father John was born in 1820. At the time of the declaration William was ill and who knows if he
understood the questions. On the 1860 Census for Scott County Arkansas, he was with his family and his age at that time was given as 14 . His witnesses for the declaration were A. D. West, his son-in-law, and John Kennedy.1
