Cleveland, Tenn., March 1. – Last night at 12:20 o’clock, the death of J.L. Eldredge, one of Cleveland’s most prominent merchants, occurred at his home on Ocoee Street, death being due to heart failure. Mr. Eldredge had been in poor health for almost a year, and recently went to John Hopkins hospital, in Baltimore, for treatment, and on his return home, it was believed he was much improved in health. Mr. Eldredge had been down town most of the day yesterday and in the evening ate his supper and appeared to be in his usual health, but a few minutes after midnight the flame of life flickered out with but a moment’s warning.
Deceased was 46 years of age, and is survived by his wife, two sons, one daughter, his aged father, Jefferson Eldredge, and four brothers, the latter being James A., of Tasso, John and Jim, of this city, and Nathaniel of Pocatello, Idaho. The funeral will take place from the Southern Methodist Church, of which deceased was a member, at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon. The Rev. John C. Orr, Dr. David Sullins and the Rev. S. T. Senter will conduct the funeral ceremonies.6
