Funeral services for Archie R. Curtis, 56, Canon City area native who died Sunday morning at a local hospital were held Tuesday from the Wilson Mortuary with Rev. R. Jay Wilson officiating. Interment was in Lakeside Cemetery. Mr. Curtis, who made his home at 110 Canal Street, was born on a ranch at Beaver Creek, February 7, 1906. He spent his entire life in the Canon City area, ranching and buying and selling stock. He sold his ranch, located just east of Canon City, about two years ago. Mr. Curtis was a member of the Methodist Church and the Four Mile Community Club. He was married March 14, 1957, at Raton, N.M., to Clara Mae Darrow, who survives. In addition, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Hettie Curtis of Canon City, and a brother, Kenneth Curtis of Alamosa.3

Mrs. Lexie E. Curtis of the Valli-Vu Nursing Home, resident of Fremont County for more than three-quarters of a century and a member of a pioneer Upper Beaver family, died Monday morning at the home at age 85. She had been in declining health the past two years. She was the widow of Edward Lee Curtis. They were married in 1905 in Florence.
She was born Oct. 14, 1885 in North Carolina, daughter of F.A. Hall and Katherine Hall. The family settled in the Upper Beaver section more than 75 years ago, moving from North Carolina. They ranched there for many years. After her marriage, the Curtis’ resided in Four-Mile. Mrs. Curtis was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Four-Mile Community Club.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Fred Wyse of Canon City; granddaughters, Mrs. Patsy Apostoli of Colorado Springs, Mrs. Peggy Ridenour of Lackikowa, Japan, Mrs. Joan Peru of Colorado Springs; great-grandchildren, Rodney Peru and Christine Marie Apostoli, both of Colorado Springs, and Pamela Michelle Ridenour of Lackikowa, Japan. Brothers and a sister, Mrs. Ann Dilley of Canon City, John Hall of Canon City and Amos Hall of Denver, also survive. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holt-Wilson Chapel of the Garden, the Rev. Ed Spence, officiating. Burial will be in Union Highland Cemetery.2

Kenneth Moore Curtis, who lived at 428 River Street, died at about 10 p.m. Thursday in a local hospital. He had been in failing health for some time, becoming serious in the past year and one-half. He was 49. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Chapel of the Garden, the Reverends Claude Kinsley and Elstun J. Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, arrangements being handled by Holt-Wilson Funeral Directors.
Mr. Curtis was born in Beaver Park, Colo., on Dec. 26, 1914. He was read in Canon City, moving from Beaver Park to Four Mile, and attended local schools and three years at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Mr. Curtis worked for a time at Alamosa and Grand Junction with a federal agriculture agency. He left government service and moved to California, where he built and ran a feed lot.
Returning to Canon City in 1952, Mr. Curtis went to work at the Pueblo Army Depot for a short time, and a car agency in Colorado Springs, until health forced him to retire. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Dories, Clinton, Okla; Mrs. Rebecca Campbell, Denver; and Christine Curtis, Canon City, and his mother Mrs. Hettie Curtis of Canon City.2
