Benjamin F. Newman, 83, of New Lexington, died Saturday afternoon in University hospital, Columbus, after three months' illness. He had been a hospital patient for two months. After retiring from the Columbus fire department, Mr. Newman moved to Abilene, Tex., and became a farmer. Retiring in 1924, he moved to New Lexington. He was a native of Morgan county, and a member of the Masonic lodge in New Lexington.
Surviving are his widow, Carrie; three daughters, Mrs. Ralph Howerth of New Lexington, Miss Edna Newman of the home, and Mrs. Florence Young of Muleshoe, Tex; two brothers, George W. Newman of Columbus, and Charles of Nelsonville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the residence. Rev. E.A. Rodeheffer and Rev. H.H. Wilbur will officiate, and burial will be in New Lexington cemetery by the C.L. Chute funeral home.10

Parshall Adam Terry, formerly of this community, died Friday morning at a hospital south of Atlantic at the age of 82 years, one month and 13 days.
When one year old he moved with his mother, two brothers and a sister in a covered wagon drawn by oxen. They settled at Wheeler Grove where he lived until 11 years of age.
He then went to Illinois to receive his education, returning to Wheeler Grove where he lived until his marriage, Dec. 25, 1880, to Elnora Osler at Plattsmouth, Neb. To this union were born seven children. His wife and one daughter preceded him in death.
They moved to Stanton, Neb., where he became a member of the Methodist church. Mrs. Terry died at that place. After her death, he moved to Omaha and since then has made his home with his children.
He leaves to mourn his passing one son, Alden, of Griswold; four daughters, Mrs. John Delantey of Geyserville, Cal., Mrs. Ben Winterstein of Cumberland, Mrs. Chas. Carey of Pilger, Neb., and Mrs. Alla Hicks of Sioux City; 23 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Services were held Sunday at Pilger, Neb., Rev. Dwight Neville of the Baptist church officiating. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Harry, Willie, Chester, Charles, Wallace and Robert Carey. Interment was made at the Stanton, Neb., cemetery beside his wife.10

Little Mary [HURST], two year old daughter of Mrs. Bessie HURST, died at 1:45 o’clock Wednesday afternoon as the result of having taken tablets containing arsenic, which had been left as a tonic for her eight year old brother, George [HURST], and which she thought was candy. The little girl took the tablets at noon and lived but a short time, despite the efforts of doctors. She was the youngest of four children. The father died over two years ago. The tablets which caused the child’s death were left at the house a few days ago by the physician who was attending George Hurst. The brother had been recently removed from the local hospital where he suffered an operation for appendicitis and the tablets were tiven him for a tonic. Knowing that the tablets were dangerous Mrs. Hurst placed them in the top shelf of the kitchen capinet. A few minutes after noon the little girl told her mother that she had eaten the candy and upon investigation Mrs. Hurst discovered that her daughter had consumed four of the deadly pills. The Doctors GOULD were summoned but all efforts on their part proved unavailing. The child passed from one convulsion to another and died shortly before two o’clock. The victim was the daughter of Ira HURST who died at Wagoner’s before the child was born. About one year ago Mrs. Hurst and her four children moved to Rochester and have resided on south Monroe street. Mrs. Hurst is the foster daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan DAWSON. Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. tody at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home, with the Rev. Richard MITCHELL officiating. Burial ws made in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. She was born July 25, 1881, in Rochester to Jonathan and Isabelle (WALLACE) DAWSON, and in 1901 she was married to Ira HURST, who died in 1912. In 1936 she married Ray O’DAFFER, who preceded her in death in 1939. Mrs. O’Daffer was a member of the Macy Christian church. Survivors are a daughter, Edith RICE, Waukegan, Ill; two sons, George HURST, Tucson, Ariz., and Jonathan HURST, Indianapolis; a step-daughter, Mrs. Arnie FISHER, Denver,
Ind., and a step-son, Devane O’DAFFER, South Bend.4

Four children preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, and the following children: Mrs. Myrtle HOWELL, Alvin [ODAFFER] and Ernest ODAFFER, South Bend and Mrs. Maud WICKS, of Rochester, Ind. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, and burial will be made in the Riverview cemetery. Mr. Odaffer was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Kewanna.
