ObitOphelia (S.O.)'s obituary was published in the Wise County Messenger on 3 May 1901:
Abstracts from the Wise County Messenger, Vol. 3; 2 Jan 1900-25 Dec 1903" by Catherine Troxell Gonzalez quoting the 3 May 1901 issue reports "Mr. Joe Curtis's wife and little daughter were badly burned by pouring coal oil on the fire in the fireplace. The little girl lived until the next morning about ten o'clock and passed away." Although this clearly states that the daughter died, it leaves the reader to wonder whether the mother survived, but she must have, since Josie was born in 1902. Descendants attribute her death to this fire. Her burial is believed to have been in Wise County. Per: Barbara Brixey Wiley.3
Death*She died circa 1903 at Wise, Texas; It is unclear whether she died after being burned in a fire in 1901, because that leads to the conclusion that Josephine was not her daughter.3,4
