The young children, their spouses and their children, were as follows; (1) Jason married Addie Ward—children Cecil and Aloth; (2) Charley married Esther Fletcher—children Olea, Eva, Joe, Carl, Zetta, Jessie, Charley, Boyd and Francis; (3) Docia married Tolbert Matlock—children Hugh, Eula, Leon, Bernis, Loman; (4) Chester married Bessie Bouser; (5) Hosea married Stella Hickman—children Woodrow, Vance, Novella and Geneva; (6) Roy married Florence Wolf--one son, Zale; (7) Thona married Roy Coday—they had one daughter, Lucille. After Roy passed away, Thona married Homer Huffstetler. Their children were Vernis, Harold and Don; (8) Clarence married Vava Eaton—children Ann, Dearles, Lowell, June and Ted; (9) Elsie married Luther Huffstetler—children Fewel and Dorothy; (10) Macie married Homer Mallory—children Alice and Bill; (11) Lela married Willis Huffstetler, a brother to Luther and Homer.
Sampson Young’s grocery was east of the courthouse square on Highway 38 near the Hartville Milling Company Plant. His home, where he and Brazalia raised their brood of eleven, is a block farther east just off 38 and is now the residence of the granddaughter Novella and her husband, Champ. . . .1

Iva Curtis, 90, Hartville, passed away at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, in St. John's Regional Health Center. She lived most of her life in the Cope community and was a loving and hardworking homemaker and also helped her husband in the operation of their farm. She was a devoted member of Pleasant Grove (Cope) Freewill Baptist Church, and faithfully attended as long as her health allowed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Virgil and Amy Idelia Royster Emmerson; and two brothers, Clifford Emmerson and an infant. On Oct. 11, 1931, she married Amos Eugene Curtis and to this union one daughter was born. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Amos of the home; a daughter and son-inlaw, Dixie and Harley Blevins, Springfield; a grandson, Stacy Blevins and his wife, Mary, Springfield; a brother, Delvin Emmerson, Gooding, Idaho; two sisters, Chlorienne Curtis, Winnemucca, Nev., and Anna Belle Claxton, Mountain Grove; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Services for Iva Curtis will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, in Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville, with the Rev. Bill Jones officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove (Cope) Cemetery, north of Hartville.1

He had a brother Roy C. who was born in 1896. Clarence was the son of Sampson Young and Brazalia Curtis. They were married December 31, 1882 and had 11 children: Jason, Charley, Docia, Chester, Hosea, Roy C., Thona, Clarence E., Elsie, Macie, Lela. Clarence Elmer Young was 1st married to Vava L. Eaton. They had 5 children. Vava died a few days after the birth of son Ted. The 5 children: Ted, June, Dorless, Lowell Elmer, Anna Jane. Vava is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 4 1/2 miles west of Hartville, MO.2
