Mr. Oakley was born June 15, 1919, in Durant, Okla., where he was raised. He attended and graduated from New Mexico Military Institute before serving his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He lived for many years in Amarillo, where he was retail manager and men's clothing buyer at Blackburn's and The Hub Clothiers for more than 40 years before retirement. He enjoyed the game of golf and enjoyed playing every time had the chance. He married Lucille Bergner on Sept. 21, 1973, in Amarillo. She passed away in 2008. Mr. Oakley was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Jay Oakley and wife Laurelee of Amarillo; and two stepdaughters, Betty Womble of Spearman and Scout Bergner-Deese of Dallas. Sign the online guest book at www.coxlagrone.com.2

Land Purch On 10 July 1813 Reuben Curtis purchased land at Pittsylvania, Virginia, from Clement Nancy for $1,500, described as 385 acres lying on the east for of Cascade Creek.6 
Will*He left a will on 19 October 1819 at Pittsylvania, Virginia; I leave to my beloved wife all my personal estate during life land and negroes to Sarah Curtis only which is to pay off my just debts. I want it equal divided between six of my children William Curtis and Elish Bruer Curtis and Thomas Curtis and Clement Nance Curtis Susannah Curtis and America Curtis my two daughters. I then will and bequeath to my son John Curtis five shillings cash and Edmon Curtis four shillings and Charles Curtis my third son and Reuben Curtis fourth son five shillings cash to them and ____ also to Nancy Brown five shillings and Sarah Raylon [Raglan] Curtis five shillings.2

NoteB Petition to the House of Representatiaves, 17th U.S. Congress (1821-1823), First Session, by Reuben Curtis in regard to Bartholomew Curtis Revolutionary War Pension, for supporting him 20 years while deaf and dumb. "Discharged; laid on table."8 
Note* On 13 July 1822 Clement McDonald pledged all of his land and personal property to Randolph McDonald so that Randolph would guarantee repayment of a loan in the amount of $107.50 from Reuben Curtis. Reuben died shortly after.9 
Death*Reuben Curtis died circa November 1822 at Pittsylvania, Virginia.2 
Probate*His estate was probated on 18 November 1822 at Pittsylvania, Virginia.2 
NoteB* On 23 December 1823, the heirs of Reuben Curtis, in consideration of $2,625, sold to Thomas Millner a parcel of land described as 375 acres in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. The heirs signing for themselves were the widow Sarah Curtis and the son William Curtis. Benjamin Watkins signed on behalf of Elisha B. Curtis, who resided out of state, and on behalf of Thomas Curtis, Clement N. Curtis, Susanna Curtis and America Curtis, who were under 21 years of age.10 
Land Purch* On 6 November 1824 Reuben Curtis purchased land at Pittsylvania, Virginia, from Elizabeth Dailey of Pittsylvania County for $12.00, described as two acres.11
