A retired, longtime Oakland County Sheriff's captain died recently at his home in Fife Lake, after a long battle with cancer. James H. Curtis, 73, died Nov. 17, and his family celebrated his life with a private service. Curtis retired as captain chief of staff with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office in 1991 after serving 27 years with the department. After graduating from Berkley High School, Curtis enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was a graduate of Madonna University and the FBI National Academy. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sandra; his daughters Wendy Liebert and Kelly Freedman; three grandchildren, and a sister, Gladys Lawson.4
