GASTON John T. Gaston Tommy passed away on October 13, 2011 at the age of 65 with the comfort of his family by his side. He was born in Jacksonville, FL and served in the Us Marine Corps from 1964-1970 and was a Vietnam Veteran. He retired from Civil Service from NAS Jax Naval Supply Center. He was preceded in death by his father, Abner Gaston, mother, Lela Gaston, brother, CA Gaston, and sister, Virgina Lane.

He is survived by his Baby Doll of 21 years, Gloria Witcher, his two sisters: Lela Mae Lee ( Carl), Elizabeth Davis, his four children: Tyrone, Stormy, Sonia and Gary, one grandson, Quincy, whom he affectionately called Buck-a-Roo, 4 nieces, 4 nephews and many other loved ones and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19th, 2011 in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery with Military Honors.1

She had been employed by the LaPlata Nursing Home for nineteen years until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of the Gifford Christian Church and had served as a leader of the Gifford Tip Top 4-H Club. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday (July 13, 1995) at the Travis Funeral Chapel in LaPlata, Missouri, with the Reverend Kirk Mallette officiating. Music will be provided by Janis Mitten, organist. Musical selections will be "Precious Memories" and "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder." Burial will be in the LaPlata Cemetery, LaPlata, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Merlin Easley, Randy Easley, Gary Pyle, Neal Helton, Jim Stewart and Marion Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews: Gail Curtis, Jason Mathes, Travis Mathes, J.C. Also surviving are two sons, Joshua Curtis and wife Sarah of La Plata, Missouri and Jason Curtis of the home; four brothers, Frank Curtis of La Plata, Missouri, Clifford and Becky Curtis of Glenwood, Iowa, Dennis and Melva Curtis of La Plata, Missouri, and Joe and Cheryl Curtis of La Plata, Missouri; one sister, Mary Prough and John Long of La Plata, Missouri; three grandchildren, Logan, Christian, and Isabella Curtis; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many friends. His parents preceded him in death.

Jeff was a 1973 graduate of La Plata High School. He retired from BNSF Railroad after 25 years of service. Jeff worked 8 years at Pleasant Valley, Missouri before returning to La Plata. He worked the past 7 years for Kraft Foods in Kirksville, Missouri. He was a member of the La Plata Baptist Church. Jeff loved hunting and fishing and especially loved spending time with his family. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, Missouri. Burial will be in the La Plata Cemetery.2

Mrs. Gracie Curtis, 62, of South Gifford, died Tuesday morning at 7:40 in a Kirksville hospital. Mrs. Curtis had been a patient there since early Saturday afternoon having suffered burns over 60-70 percent of her body. Mrs. Curtis was born July 14, 1903 in Macon County and was married to Earl Curtis on November 21, 1935 who survives. Also surviving are three brothers, John Lene of La Plata, Andy and Paul Lene of Elmer and one sister, Mrs. Hazel Hiles of Elmer. Jack Lene of La Plata and Tom Lene of Texas were half brothers. Mrs. Curtis was a member of the South Gifford Christian church where the services were conducted yesterday (Wednesday) by Rev. Clyde McCollum. Burial in Indian Hill Cemetery north of Gifford.1
