Land Purch*

On 14 January 1835 Sampson Curtis purchased land at Gibson, Tennessee, from Jeptha Billingsley of Gibson County for $2,200, located on the Little North fork of Forked Deer River in District 13, Range 3, Section 2, being the same tract granted to F. McGavock and by him conveyed to said Billingsley, bordering Samuel Hance.⁴

Land Sale*

On 19 December 1836 Sampson Curtis sold land at Gibson, Tennessee, along with William Edwards of Henry County, Tennessee to William D. Scott of Gibson County, Tennessee, for $3,400, located on the waters of the North fork of Forked Deer River in the 13th Surveyors District, Range 3, Section 2, being the same tract granted to F.R. McGavock and by him sold to Jeptha Billingsley on which is situated the Mills commonly known as the Mills of Edwards & Curtis and bordering Samuel Harris; witnessed by R.P. Raines, Robert Seat, James M. Wilson.⁵

Graveside services for Violet Curtis, 92, of Longview will be 10 a.m. today at Grace Hill Cemetery with John C Murphy Jr, verger, Trinity Episcopal Church officiating and under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Mrs Curtis was born July 3, 1903, in Waco. She died Thursday at a local nursing home.
She lived in Longview for many years and was the retired owner - operator of the Violet Shop. Mrs Curtis was a founding member of the Allied Florist Association of Longview and a member of the Longview Garden Club and the Christian Church.
She is survived by a son, William Curtis of Longview; a daughter, Zella Tucker of Bandera; six - grandchildren; and six great - grandchildren.
