MARION - Bertha Rae Curtis, 86, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at the McDowell hospital. She was born Aug. 24, 1915, in McDowell County to the late Morris Wayne Curtis and Maggie Harris Curtis. She attended Carson's Chapel United Methodist Church and was a housekeeper. She was affectionately called "Aunt Bunt" and was considered by her family to be the greatest grandmother and aunt in the world. She is survived by her brothers, Howard Curtis and Raymond Curtis, both of Marion sisters, Lucille Price of Ellenboro and Dorothy Abernathy of Nebo grandson, Morris Curtis of Marion and granddaughter, Kimberly Gay Church of Albemarle. The funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 3, at Westmoreland Funeral Home chapel with visitation one hour prior to the services. The Revs. Don Morris and Dean Silver will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church cemetery.6

She leaves behind to cherish her memory two sons, Robert Loftis and wife Sylvia, of Marion and Eddie Price and wife Teresa, of Rutherfordton; seven grandchildren, Dawn Elliott and husband Roger, April Moretz and husband Chad, Star Newhouse and husband Neal, Cindy Benfield and husband Tim, Jenna Price, Cayla Childers and husband David and nine great grandchildren. Interment will be in Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church Cemetery.3

Raymond Curtis, 81, of Marion passed away at the VA Medical Center in Oteen on Monday, April 23, 2007 after a short period of declining health. He was born to the late Morris and Maggie Harris Curtis of Lake Tahoma on Feb. 8, 1926 and was a 35-year retiree of Cross Cotton Mills. Raymond was the beloved husband of Marietta Burgin Curtis. He was "daddy" to daughter, Dixie Annette Buckner and husband, J.D., and son, Dennis Raymond Curtis and wife, Katie. He was also the precious "Papaw" of Jason, Eric, Amy, Summer, Brandon, Samantha and Lily and "brother" to Mrs. Lucille Price of Ellenboro. Several brothers and sisters predeceased him. He has a number of surviving nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held at West Marion United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Marion United Methodist Church.
