(Witness) Bio | Abigail Bull was born in Fredrick County, Virginia. She married John Corbly in 1752 in Winchester, Virginia. Very little is known about Abigail Bull. It is said that she could have been of the Quaker or Roman Catholic faith. Soon after their marriage they moved to Berkeley County, Virginia. Records show that John Corbly received a grant of land from Lord Fairfax, June 17, 1765. He sold the land April 16, 1773. Some time later he acquired more than 300 acres on the frontier of southwestern PA. Although John Corbly's purpose appeared to be acquiring land in America, he did settle in Berkeley County, Virginia shortly after his marriage to Abigail Bull. It was there he met the Elder John Garard, a powerful Baptist minister of the Gospel. John Corbly was speedily converted and concecrated his life to the work of the Master. He was baptized by Reverend John Garard and was soon specially licensed to the ministry. In the later part of 1768 Abigail Bull Corbly died. She was buried near Winchester, Virginia. John and Abigail Bull Corbly had four children. Margaret,Rachel, Priscilla and John, Jr. After Abigail's death, John moved his family to the frontier of southwestern PA, where he could enjoy freedom and practise the religion of his own conscience. He began by doing missionary work and went on to establish many churches. He was widely known and respected as a Baptist Minister, a great Statesman, and a Patriot of the Revolutionary War. He died on June 09, 1803 in Garards Fort in Greene County, PA. Rachel Corbly was born about 1760 in Fredrick County, Va., daughter of Abigail Bull and John Corbly. Rachel married Justus Garard about 1773 in Washington County, PA. Justus was the son of Elder John Garard and Mehetable.(name unknown) Many books have been written and memorials established in the honor of Reverend John Garard and Reverend John Corbly, both being worthy, courageous frontiersmen who contributed greatly to the foundation of early America. I am very priviledged to descend from both the Garard and Corbly line. However, the wives of these great men remain a mystery. My deepest hope is to find information on Abigail Bull who was born in Winchester, Virginia.
