He was born September 5, 1924 in Piqua, to the late Fern and Matilda (Jaegel) Curtis. He married Gertrude T. Schmerge on May 2, 1955; she preceded him in death on January 31, 1994. He then married Patty Bergman on April 19, 1995; and she survives. Other survivors include five sons, Gregory (Kristi) Curtis of Piqua, Gary (Susan) Curtis of Piqua, George (Ann) Curtis Jr. of Piqua, Brian (Jackie) Curtis of Sidney, and Brent Curtis of Troy; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers Louis (Carolyn) Curtis of Piqua, Charles (Maxine) Curtis of Piqua, Fernie (Margaret) Curtis of Piqua; and sister Theresa Mikolajewski of Piqua. He was preceded in death by brothers Cliff Klase, Ray and Paul Curtis, and sisters Eileen Deeter and Rosie McCawley. Mr. Curtis attended Piqua Catholic Schools and served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during World War II. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1064, Piqua. He was a retired meat cutter, and also had worked for SCOPE delivering Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed playing cards, horseshoes, trips to the casino boats, fishing, and spending time with his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2007 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. Angelo C. Caserta officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.3 |

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Clifford Klase, Paul Curtis, Ray Curtis, George Curtis, Fernie Curtis, and two sisters, Rosie McCawley and Eilene Deeter.
Mr. Curtis served as a sergeant with the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1988 as a District Manager for the Meadow Gold Company having began his career as a Route Representative. Following retirement he was employed at Unity National Bank as a Courier for many years. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the V.F.W. Post #4874, the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #523, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge #614. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, fishing, helping others, and was a great handyman. He will be fondly remembered as a loving grandfather to all his grandchildren, and quite the jokester as he was always kidding others. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends. Burial at Forest Hill Cemetery, where full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.2 |

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Louise Ray Curtis; children, Lynn Louise Redinbo of Piqua, William See Curtis and Matthew Ray Curtis, both of Troy; brother, Marvin E. Curtis of Troy; and six grandchildren. Services were Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church with burial in Casstown Cemetery.4 |
