Obit | Eliza Ann's obituary was published in the an unknown place on 22 April 1914: Eliza Curtis was called to her reward Wednesday evening April 15. While the deceased had been an invalid for a number of years, death always comes as a shock to those nearest and dearest. She was born April 24, 1851, and beside her faithful husband leaves seven children to mourn the loss of wife and mother. The children, John Curtis, of Ada, Okla; Mrs. John Farr, of Edinburg; Mrs. C. C. Priddy, of Jeffersonville; Mrs. G. L. Scott, of Phoenixville, Pa; Mrs. Carl Oaks, of Indianapolis; Mrs. R. M. Weir and Will E. Curtis of this place, were all here to attend the funeral and to take the last look at the face so dear to them. The funeral was held at the M. E. Church at Austin, after which the remains were taken to Crothersville for interment. The pall-bearers, selected from her friends and neighbors, were Mrs. George Berry, Mrs. William Newberry, Mrs. William Murphin, Mrs. Joseph Mathias, Mrs. Henry Bartle and Mrs. M. C. Mann.4 |

Funeral services for John Curtis, 65 years old, cement manufacturer, who died Friday at St. Anthony's Hospital, Louisville, of injuries suffered Thursday when his automobile was demolished by an interurban car of the Public Service Company of Indiana on a Watson, Ind., grade crossing, have been arranged for 2 o'clock Sunday at his residence on the Watson-Sellersburg Road, with burial in the Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Masons are in charge of graveside rites.
James Drury of Jeffersonville was motorman of the interurban which was operating on a branch line between Watson and Charlestown. The crash was about a mile from the crossing, where James Abe Abney, 62, farmer, was killed in an interurban-automobile crash Sunday.
Mr. Curtis is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carrie Curtis; two sons, Merritt of Toledo, Ohio, and Hobert of Buffalo, N. Y; a brother, William, of Indianapolis; five sisters, Mrs. Flora Trobaugh, Indianapolis; Mrs. Laura Weir, Austin, Ind; Mrs. Anna Farr, Edinburg, Ind; Mrs. Rosella Whittinghill, Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Bessie Oaks of Ohio, and five grandchildren.10 |
