Obit | Kenneth Alvah's obituary was published in the Abilene Reporter on 16 February 1997: Kenneth Alvah Barron, 65, died Friday in a local hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in North's Funeral Home Chapel, 242 Orange, with the Revs. Johnny M. Smith and Alan Cartrite officiating. Burial will be in Midway Cemetery. Mr. Barron was born in Owens and attended school in Brownwood. He was a U.S. Army veteran and married Sue Faulks in 1954 in Hawley. He worked as a truck driver before retiring in 1994 and lived in Fort Worth for 35 years before moving to Abilene in 1995. He was a member of Hodges Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; three daughters, Gail Salyer of Mayhill, N.M., June Langley of Arlington and Lesa Stites of Abilene; his mother, Pauline Barron of Alvarado; four brothers, Wayne Barron of Rendon, Jimmy Barron of Fort Worth, Lloyd Barron of Lipan and Doyle Barron of Godley; and seven grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to Hodges Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.3 |

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel. Local arrangements were made by Kreidler Funeral Home. Mr. Goza was born in Merkel and married B.J. Faulks in 1954. He moved to McAllen in 1962. He worked as an instrument technician for Claxton Music Co. until 1972 and Melhart Music until 1984. He then was self-employed. He was a charter member of National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians Inc. and was a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, of McAllen; two sons, Gordon "Rocky" Goza of Noblesville, Ind., and Phillip "Rick" Goza of McAllen; three brothers, Frank Goza of San Antonio, Glen Goza of Gladewater and Guy Goza of Arlington; two sisters, Hattie Smithee of Arlington and Pattie White of Hendersonville, Tenn; two grandchildren; two aunts; and 36 nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Helen was born Nov. 14, 1913, in Walters, Okla., to John and Millie Coleman Simpson. She married Frank Pierce Quigley on Nov. 2, 1931, in Clayton, N.M. Helen, the great matriarch of the family, was followed by five generations resulting in six living generations at the same time. Helen was a resident of Dalhart, Texas, for 70 years. She worked in the roundhouse of the Rock Island Railroad cleaning engines during World War II. Later, she worked in the office as the superintendent's administrative assistant. She returned to Dalhart High School with her daughter, Jo, to take typing and shorthand classes. In 1998, she moved to Amarillo to live at The Canyons Retirement Center, where she was the Wii bowling champion. "Granny," a beloved nickname for Helen, which embodies her spunk and zeal for life, will be dearly missed by friends and family. The family would like to thank everyone who has prayed and supported them through this time, especially to Canyons Retirement Center, Bivins Rehab, and the hospice team at BSA. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Jack, Lloyd and John Jr; a sister, Iva Pitts; a son-in-law, James Field; and a granddaughter, Jo Ann Chavez. Survivors include a daughter, Jo Field; a son, D.G. Quigley and special friend Brenda; 10 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-great-grandson.4 |
