Obit | Francis Marion (Frank)'s obituary was published in the Unknown on circa 9 February 1911: Francis Marion Curtis was born in Kay [sic] County, Missouri on Dec. 11, 1838. Son of Samuel and Nancy Curtis, the former a native of Tennessee, the latter a native of Kentucky. He lived with his parent in Ray County until 1852 when they moved to Macon County. He enlisted in the Federal Army at Macon in Co. I, 7th MO cavalry in 1861. He served 11 months in the war. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity in which order he was a zealous worker. For many years he had been a member and faithful worker in the Illinois Bend Christian church. He married Miss Martha Phillips on Jun 5, 1863. They had 8 children and 3 are still living. Mrs. Emma Elliott of Macon County, Mr. Wiley of Macon County and John Francis of Montana. Martha passed away Aug. 3, 1909. Francis had been ill five weeks with pneumonia at the home of his daughter Emma, where he died 9 p.m. Feb. 8, 1911. He was 72 years, 1 month, and 28 days. Children and grandchildren watched by bedside. On Friday morning, 10 a.m. the funeral was conducted by Rev. Munyon at the Elliott home, where a large number of relatives and friends gathered to pay last respects. Burial was at the Shumaker Cemetery, conducted by Masonic order.14 |
