Obit | Amos Eugene's obituary was published in the Unknown Newspaper on circa 5 January 2006: Amos Eugene Curtis, departed this life Wednesday, January 4, 2006, in Woodland Manor Care Center, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of one hundred years, four months and twenty days. On October 11, 1931 he was united in marriage to Iva Emmerson, and to this union a daughter was born. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Essie and Jim Calhoun; his wife, Iva, on September 24, 2003; and a half-sister, Tressie Mallory. Amos is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Harley Blevins, of Springfield; a grandson, Stacy Blevins, and his wife, Mary, of Sauk City, Wisconsin; a half brother, Manie Calhoun, Mansfield; two half-sisters, Mildred Mallory, of Seymour, and Minnie Benton, of Jerome, Idaho; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was born in Wright County and resided there throughout most of his life. He worked in California in the orange groves for a few years and then returned home. After he and Iva were married, they moved to Idaho for five years where he worked on ranches. When they returned to Wright County, they purchased their farm in the St. George community, where they lived the rest of their lives. Amos had professed his faith in Christ, and was a longtime member of the Pleasant Grove (Cope) Freewill Baptist Church. He and Iva were very devoted to the church, always ready to have the building opened and prepared for services. He had also served on the cemetery board for many years. He was a very dependable individual who centered his life around his family, the church, and the operation of the farm. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially playing Wahoo. In his spare time he also enjoyed going fishing. Amos was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle; and was a caring neighbor and friend. He will be greatly missed and will live in our hearts forever. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2006, in the Holman-Howe Chapel, Hartville. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.5 |
