Mr. Joe A. Curtis 95 of Lascassus died Saturday, December 6th. He was a native of Bedford County; a retired employee of Cummings Sign Company of Murfreesboro and a member of the U.S. Army, World War II. He was the son of the late Joseph Green and Sallie May Charles Curtis. He is survived by his wife, Melba Inez Waddey Curtis; son, Joe A. (Charlene) Curtis Jr; Grandsons, Joe A. Curtis III and Austin E. Curtis all of Lascassas and nephew James Curtis of Shelbyville.

Graveside Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 9th, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Hillcrest Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

James Edward's obituary was published in the Doak-Howell Funeral Home on 23 November 2015:
Funeral services for James Edward Curtis, age 88 of Shelbyville, will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015 in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Brother Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Mr. Curtis passed from this life Sunday November 22, 2015 at his home surrounded by family and friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00pm at the funeral home. A native of Bedford County, he was born on April 23, 1927 and was the son of the late Roy F. & Mattie Geneva Hoover Curtis and was preceded in death by his siblings, Estelle Moore & J.R. Curtis. Mr. Curtis worked 24 years for the U.S. Rubber Company and then 25 years with the Eaton Corporation before he retired in 1992. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during WWII and was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion and United Steel Workers. He was a long time member of Southside Church of Christ. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who’s favorite past time was wood working.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Alice Crowell Curtis, children; Randall S. (Janis) Curtis and Helene C. (John) Wharton all of Shelbyville, grandchildren; Amy R. (Michael) Hagee, Michael E. (Misty) Curtis, Bridget W. Bobo, Barry Bobo, Elizabeth W. (Richard) Elam, great grandchildren; Madison E. Hagee, Emma M. Hagee, McKenzie L. Curtis, Maycee L. Curtis, Madylin K. Curtis, Zachary A. Bobo, Rebecca A. Bobo, Cassidy R. Wharton, Trevor L. Elam & Megan B. Elam & several nieces and nephews. MDoak-Howell Funeral Home is serving the family.⁴
