He was a veteran of World War 11, serving in the Navy. He was a member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in New Harmony, Ind; Arctic Masonic Lodge No. 394 of New Harmony, Ind., Wadesville VFW and American Legion Owen Dunn Post No. 5 of Mount Vernon, Ind. Benny served the people of Posey County as a county councilman for two terms. He was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou (Kaffenberger) Curtis; a son, Benny Mack Curtis and wife, Kathy; daughters, Rita Jo Conyers and husband, Wayne, and Sue Watson and husband, Gary, all of New Harmony, Ind; a brother, Vernice Lee Curtis of Evansville, Ind; a sister, Mary "Maxine" Romick of Ashland, Ky; four grandchildren, Greg Watson, Curt Conyers, Adam Conyers and Cory Stateler; a great-grandchild, Megan Watson; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Madison Johnson, Jessica and Michea Reinitz. Funeral services 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at the Schneider Funeral Home 512 Main St., Mount Vernon, Ind., with Pastor Larry Conyers officiating, burial will be in St. Matthews Cemetery. Military rites provided by the Owen Dunn Post No. 5 Honor Guard. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 17, at the funeral home. Pall bearers are Mike Hasting, Bud Funkhouser, Leonard Kuhn, Jim Shepard, Don Fisher and Charles Huck. Honorary pall bearers are Duane Collier, Ivan Alsop, John Schisler and Kenneth Curtis.4 |

Sue Curtis; step son, Cory Stateler; sister in law, Barbara Mattingly (Ronald); nephews, Greg Watson (Sara), Curt Conyers (Cheri), Adam Conyers, and Mark Mattingly (Mary Jean); niece, Shari Benefiel; great nieces; great nephews; special friends, Danny and Tamara Creek, Jeff and Edie Creek, and John Hanebutt. He also leaves behind many friends who will miss him dearly. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St. in Mt. He was born May 10, 1915 in Poseyville, IN the son of Oria and Wilma (Wilson) Curtis. Graduated from Medaryville High School and served in the US Army during WWII. In 1980 he retired as a Machinist with Indiana General with 27 years of service. He will be fondly remembered for his love of gardening and fishing. On March 14, 1942 in Fayetteville, NC he married Leona Dahl who survives along with her 4 children, Kathleen Curtis of Colon, MI, Steven (Karen) Curtis of Valparaiso, Rhonda Curtis of Wanatah, Loren (Becky) Curtis of Demotte, 5 brothers and sisters, Robert Curtis of Texas, Virginia Coward of Evansville, Vera Clayton of Evansville, Oria Curtis of California, Charles Curtis of California; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Sharon Tuthill in 2000 and 1 sister, Iris Webb. Following a cremation at Angelcrest Crematory at Moeller Funeral Home private burial of ashes will take place at Graceland Cemetery.6 |

Virginia is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Homer Coward, sisters, Vera Clayton and Iris Webb and brothers, Roy Curtis and Bert Curtis. There will be no visitation or services at Browning Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date.6 |

Clayton, Evansville, Ind; daughters, Linda Connor and her husband, Robert, Titusville, Fla., and Cathi Titzer, Evansville, Ind; sons, Michael Clayton and his wife, Barbara, Fort Wayne, Ind., and David Joe Clayton and his wife, Kim, Valdosta, Ga; sister, Virginia Coward, Evansville, Ind; brothers, Oria Curtis and his wife, Marge, Copperopolis, Calif., Bill Curtis, Texas, and Bert Curtis and his wife, Betty, San Jose, Calif; grandchildren, Nichole Clayton, Troy Clayton, Joshua Connor, Adam Ensinger, Paula LeClaire and Travis Clayton; and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., with Rev. Ed Gardner officiating.
