Born June 24, 1901, at Humphrey County, Tenn., son of the late Silas Nathan and Janie Stuart Curtis, he had been a mail carrier in the Marston area for many years. He was first married to Goldie DeRousse Curtis, who preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 1997. He later married Clara Cutler and she also preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were: five brothers, his twin Rockey Curtis, Ernest L. Curtis, James W. Curtis, Woodrow Curtis and Bert Curtis; and two sisters, Annie Curtis and Agnes Curtis. Survivors include: one nephew, Earl Curtis of Caruthersville; and four nieces, Irene Hardy of Caruthersville, Martha Savat Newsom of Marston, Hazel Murphy of Staunton, Ill., and Justine Pence of Tucson, Ariz. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday. Bill Baldwin of Marston will officiate. Burial will follow in Mounds Park Cemetery near Lilbourn. |

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in East Prairie. On Nov. 9, 1986, he married Sally O'Connor True, who survives of the home. Other survivors include: two sons, Ronnie Westmoland, and Danny Westmoland; one daughter, Brenda Brodeur; one stepdaughter, Barbara Allen; one niece, Maxine Nichols; and 14 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Two stepchildren, Danny True and Barbara Hockersmith Singleton, one brother and five sisters preceded him in death. Visitation was held at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where services were conducted. George White officiated. Burial followed in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.3 |
