Birth*Sarah Isaacks was born circa 1755; information on Sarah provided by two Curtis descendants, but I have not obtained or reviewed the documentation, nor have I found her in published Isaacks family information.1

Cleveland's militia, but there is no documentation to that effect.2
(Witness) CensusSarah Isaacks appeared on the census of 1800 Morgan District, Ashe, North Carolina, in the household of David Curtis; page 76, 1 female under 10, 2 males 16-25, 1 male and 1 female over 45; Elijah and Samuel were reported in separate households, which accounts for all four of David's sons. Birth*Samuel Curtis was born circa 1777 at North Carolina; poll tax payment suggests 1776, census data suggest 1776 or 1777.1,2,3
(Witness) CensusHe appeared on the census of 1790 Pendleton District, South Carolina, in the household of David Curtis; page 83, 1 male over 16, 4 males 1-15, 1 female; also reported on the same page are Elijah Isaacs, Benj. Cleveland Esq., Jesse Coffee and William Ward; the Cleveland/Isaacs move from Wilkes County to South Carolina is well-documented. One could suppose that David fought with Col. Cleveland's militia, but there is no documentation to that effect.4
Marriage*Samuel Curtis married Eliza Yount, daughter of John Yount Sr. and Elizabeth Fouts, circa 1796 at Wilkes, North Carolina.5,2,6
Tax List*Samuel Curtis appeared on the personal property tax list of 1797 at Capt. Jon Whittenton's District, Wilkes, North Carolina; 1 poll, no acreage; lived near to Isaacks, Mast, Shull, David & Joshua Sr. Curtice.1
NoteB Eliza Yount, born about 1777, apparently married Samuel Curtis in Wilkes County, N.C. While we do not know this for a fact, circumstantial evidence points strongly in this direction. Samuel’s name appeared on a 1797 Wilkes County tax list in the same tax district as John Young. Since Samuel was not listed in 1795 and had no land in 1797, he apparently turned 21 in 1796 or 1797. Samuel was a witness to the deed by which Cutliff Harmon sold John Yount half of his Wilkes County land on 30 August 1796.
Samuel Curtis was listed in the 1830 Howard County, Missouri census. He and his wife were both reported to be in the 50-60 age bracket. Howard County is the same county where Eliza’s brother-in-law, Thomas Smith, settled. David Curtis, a close friend and business associated of John Yount of Linn County, Missouri, who was evidently also the latter’s cousin, is also known to have resided in Howard County. In short, the Samuel Curtis of Wilkes County, North Carolina and Howard County, Missouri appear to be one and the same.6
NoteB* There is no known list of Samuel and Eliza's children. The first 8 children shown here are the same 8 Curtises who appear in the Howard County marriage records prior to 1840. This appears to be the basis for various internet postings prepared/copied by other researchers.7
Census*He and Eliza Yount appeared on the census of 1800 at Morgan District, Ashe, North Carolina, page 76, 1 male under 10, 1 male and 1 female 16-25.8
(Witness) Land SaleSamuel Curtis witnessed the sale of land by David Curtis on 8 May 1802 at Ashe, North Carolina; to Samuel Curtis for $200, described as a 208 acre portion of a 640 acre tract granted to Joseph White and conveyed to David Curtis, adjacent to David Isaacs; witnessed by Will Johnston and Caleb Isaac.9
Tax ListSamuel Curtis appeared on the personal property tax list of 1805 at Anderson, Tennessee; signed a petition to establish Campbell County, which occurred in 1806.10
CensusHe and Eliza Yount appeared on the census of 1805 at Anderson, Tennessee.11
Land Sale* In November 1806 Samuel Curtis sold land at Ashe, North Carolina, 208 acres to William Johnson, proved in court by Joel Johnson.12
Land Purch* On 15 July 1810 Samuel Curtis purchased land at Campbell, Tennessee, from Andrew Hatfield.13
NoteB On 4 December 1810 Samuel and 5 other men signed a bond in the amount of $5,000 for the performance of the Campbell County Sheriff for the next two years.14
NoteB On 8 December 1812, Samuel and five other men again co-signed a bond in the amount of $1,000 for the performance of the Campbell County Sheriff over the next two years.15
NoteB* Samuel did not appear on the 1818 tax list in Campbell County, Tennessee, where Elijah resided.16
Land Sale On 6 October 1819 Samuel Curtis sold land at Campbell, Tennessee, to Benjamin Rogers.13
Census*He and Eliza Yount appeared on the census of 1830 at Howard, Missouri, page 146, 1 male 5-10, 2 males 10-14, 1 male 15-20, 1 male and 1 female 20-30, 1 male and 1 female 50-60; there may be more children than listed above.17
Marriage*Samuel Curtis married Cynthia A. Elliott on 25 July 1836 at Chariton, Missouri.18,2
Census*Samuel Curtis and Cynthia A. Elliott appeared on the census of 1840 at Jefferson Twp., Livingston, Missouri, page 281, 2 males under 5, 1 male 5-10, 1 male 10-15, 1 female 20-30, 1 male 50-60; both Samuel and Cynthia's ages are 10 years off.19
CensusSamuel Curtis and Cynthia A. Elliott appeared on the census of 19 September 1850 at District 51, Livingston, Missouri, page 70b, occupation farmer, real estate valued at $200, William Curtis, age 15, and Elliot Curtis, age 11, lived with them.18

(Witness) BioJOHN J.CURTIS was born June 22, 1843, in Carroll county, Missouri, four miles northeast of Carrollton, son of Joel Curtis, native of North Carolina. His father moved to Carroll county, in 1835. John J. is the youngest of four children. He was raised on a farm, and has followed that avocation all his life. During the war be served with the militia, and at the time of the capture of Carrollton, he posted to Chillicothe, and prevented the capture of Shanklin's men, who were camped at Coloma, and on their road to assist at Carrollton. Mr. Curtis was married October 28, 1868, to Miss Nancy E. James, daughter of John James, one of the early settlers of the county. Four children were born to them. One, a bright boy of eleven years, was killed by. the falling of a school house window, which he was entering for his books. He attempted to enter the window by standing on a stick, which leaned against the house. The stick slipped from under him, and the sash fell and caught his head. He could not reach the ground with his feet, nor help himself in any way. He was found by his father three hours afterward, when life had became extinct. This sad affair happened on February 26, 1881. In their sore affliction the family have the sympathy of the entire community.21
