Harley E. Mowery, 67, superintendent of the Pickaway County Home for the last 25 years, died at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday in Berger Hospital. Mr. Mowery had undergone an emergency operation Monday for appendicitis. Peritonitis caused death. He had been ill five days. Mr. Mowery ws a son of Henry and Isabell Odaffer Mowery. He was born in Tarlton, Oct. 14, 1871. Prior to his appointment to the position of superintendent of the County Home, Mr. Mowery was a farmer in Saltcreek Township.
He was married Jan. 11, 1894 to Jennie Wise, at Stoutsville. Besides his widow, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. W.L. Sprouse, of E. Main Street; two brothers, James Mowery, Circleville township, and Robert Mowery, of Columbus, and three sisters, Mrs. Frank Hedges, Mrs. Myrtle Reichelderfer, and Mrs. Clara Macklin, all of Tarlton, and one . . ., Robert Mowery Sprouse. Mr. Mowery was a member of the Lutheran Church of Tarlton and the brotherhood of the Circleville Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held in the Stoutsville Reformed Church Thursday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. H.A. Blum and the Rev. Charles Essick officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Stoutsville.6

Mr. James H. Mowery, 122 S. Pickaway St., died 6:40 a.m. today in Berger Hospital. He had been in failing health for several months. Mr. Mowery, 75, had served as Clerk of Common Pleas Court for the past 12 years. He retired Jan. 1. A native Pickaway Countian, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a graduate of Tarlton High School and Bliss Business College. He was a farmer and had served as superintendent of the Pickaway County Home prior to seeking election as Clerk of Courts. He was also an appraiser for the Columbus Production Credit Assn., and a former Circleville Twp. Trustee. Mr. Mowery was born April 2, 1889, in Tarlton, the son of Henry and Isabel Odaffer Mowery.
He is survived by his widow, Fannie Dresbach Mowery; two sons, Galen, Route 3, and James S., Lancaster; and one grandson, James S. Mowery, Jr. Mr. Mowery was the last of his generation. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carl Zehner officiating. Burial will be in Hitler-Ludwig Cemetery.3
