He retired in 1971 as a foreman for the Norfolk & Western Railroad after 40 years of service. Mrs. Slisher had also served for many years as a school crossing guard at Garretson and Franklin streets. On Dec. 24, 1927, in Rochester, Ind., he married Thelma J. Wagoner, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Ronald and Charles, both of Michigan City; Claude, Knox, Ind; two daughters, Ellen Miller and Pearl Lubs, both of Valparaiso, Ind; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Zadie Gunter, Michigan City. A son, Vernon, a great-grandchild, four brothers and a sister are deceased. Mr. Slisher was a member of First Christian Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 1228 of Michigan City.4
