Several years ago he retired as a quarry foreman for the Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corporation. He was a charter member and elder of the Duckwall Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, formerly Elsie Wachter, at home; two sons, George Edward and Robert W., a daughter, Mrs. Cora Mills, three brothers, George, Arick and Frank, all of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Unger, Hancock, Md., and Mrs. Sarah Youngblood, Berkeley Springs. The body was taken to the Duckwall Presbyterian Church at 1:30 Monday where services were held at 2:30 with the Rev. George H. Rector of McDowell, Va., formerly of Berkeley Springs, and the pastor, the Rev. H.M. Raynal, officiating. Interment was in Greenway cemetery.8

Born in Morgan County March 12, 1905, he was the son of Charles A. and Clara Lutman Mellott. During World War II he served as a pharmacist's mate with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Alderton-Dawson Post No. 60, American Legion, for 26 years, and had served as post adjutant 1974-75. He was a member of the Catholic Church.
His first wife, the former Alice Hovermill, died in 1963. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie L. Culp Waugh Thompson Mellott, at the home. Other survivors are one son, Paul R., of Bowie, Md; one step-son, Bernard Waugh, Washington, D.C; three daughters, Miss Nancy Jean Mellott, Rhinebeck, N.Y; Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Deadmon, Hyattsville, Md., and Mrs. Patricia Louise Harwood, Landover, Md; seven grandchildren; one brother, Charles Albert Mellott, Fairfax, Va. Arrangements were made by the Johnson Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs, where services were conducted Monday, December 13 by Father P.H. Stragisher, with burial in Greenway Cemetery with full military graveside rites. Memorial contributions may be made to the Morgan County Rescue Service.8

Waugh, Washington, D.C; one sister, Lillie Rankin, Berkeley Springs; and a number of nieces and nephews. Services are being conducted today, Wednesday, September 7, 10: a.m. at the Hunter Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs with the Rev. Henry L. Fisher officiating with burial in the Greenway Cemetery.3

Thomas L. Shade, of Great Cacapon, died Wednesday, August 5, in the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md. He was born in Morgan County, October 24, 1893, son of Frank and Lettie Shirley Shade. He was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church and the Junior Order United American Mechanics at great Cacapon.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Virginia R. Waugh Shade; two son, Paul Shade, Great Cacapon, and Glenwood Shade, Point Pleasant; three daughters, Mrs. Stella Knoller and Mrs. Margaret Hutchinson, both of great Cacapon; Mrs. Genevieve Effland, Baltimore, Md; one sister, Mrs. Laura Hooper, Toms River, N.J; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services were conducted Saturday, August 8, 2 p.m. at the Hunter Funeral Home by the Rev. Daniel Frazier. Burial was in Greenway Cemetery.2

Pvt. Charles Franklin Shade, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Shade of Great Cacapon, was accidentally drowned Sunday, July 11, while on a fishing trip off Winesland in the Gulf of Mexico. Winesland is 40 miles from Houma, La., where he was located at the Naval Air Station Marine Barracks. The message informing his parents of the tragedy was received Monday. On Wednesday another message was received informing them the body of the young man had been recovered. Pvt. Shade, the second Morgan county soldier to lose his life during the present conflict, enlisted in the Marine Corps in December 1942 at Trenton, J.J. At the time he was employed in Bayville, N.J.
Besides his parents the following three sisters and two brothers survive: Mrs. Stella Rogers, Margaret, Genevieve and Glenwood at home and Pvt. Paul Shade of Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind. If the body arrives in time the funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Great Cacapon United Brethren Church with Rev. G.M. Poole, the pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery in Berkeley Springs.1

He was a resident of great Cacapon. Born September 28, 1930 in Morgan County, he was the son of Rebecca Virginia Waugh Shade of Berkeley Springs and the late Thomas Lewis Shade. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was manager of the Cacapon Club at the time of death.
Surviving in addition to his mother are: his wife Theresa Marie Rasicot Shade at the home; a son, Glenwood Thomas Shade Jr., also at the home; two daughters, Ann Rebecca Miller of Berkeley Springs and Terry Lee Twigg of Great Cacapon; a brother, Paul Shade of Great Cacapon; two sisters, Margaret Hutchinson of Great Cacapon and Genevieve Effland of Baltimore, Md; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Johnson Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs on Friday, April 30 with Father Thomas Kennette officiating with burial in the Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs with military rites. Arrangements were handled by Johnson Funeral Home.3
