Obit | John W.'s obituary was published in the Morgan Messenger on 18 January 1940: On Monday afternoon at 3:45 John W. Waugh, aged 76 years, 8 months and 19 days, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Martin L. Miller, near Sir Johns Run, death being due to a heart attack. In recent years he had suffered several such attacks but recovered. During the past several years he made his home with the Millers on their farm. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Hunter Funeral home conducted by Rev. F. G. Senger of the United Brethren church, and interment was in Greenway cemetery. The deceased, who was a native of Morgan county, is survived by the following children: Mrs. M. L. Miller, Walter Waugh, Mrs. Thomas Shade and James B. Waugh, seven brothers and sisters and 22 grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boggs of Dundalk, Md., were here to attend the funeral.9 |

The deceased was a native of this county living in the Spohrs Cross Roads community where he was a prominent farmer. Eleven years ago he retired and moved to Great Cacapon where he had lived since. His widow, three children, Carl Widmeyer, Great Cacapon; Rev. C. Brent Widmeyer, Pasadena, Calif; Mrs. George A. Yost, Berkeley Springs; one brother, Kelly Widmeyer and a sister, Mrs. C.I. Pentoney, both of Berkeley Springs, survive. Eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Great Cacapon United Brethren Church with Rev. G.M. Poole, the pastor, officiating. Bearers were Roy, Clarence and Leslie Widmeyer and John, William and Edgar Pentoney. Interment was in Friendship Cemetery near his former home. Among those from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ross Widmyer, Miss Agnes Andrews and Gilbert Bishop, Martinsburg; Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Slonaker and the Rev. J. Paul Gruver, of Martinsburg, officiating. Kelly Widmyer, 84, died Saturday morning, September 8, 1945, at his home on Berkeley Heights after an illness due to infirmities of age, which began last June. He had been bedfast about two weeks. The deceased was a retired farmer, moving here about 24 years ago from his farm on Pious Ridge which he operated successfully and profitably. He was a member of the Methodist Church since childhood and was superintendent of the Wesley Chapel Sunday School for a number of years and one of the chapel trustees. After coming to Berkeley Springs he became an active and regular attendant at the local Methodist Church. Last November 11, Mr. and Mrs. Widmyer celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Surviving are his widow and the following children: Clarence and Roy Widmyer and Mrs. Oakley Michael, Berkeley Springs; Mrs. Earl Miller, Wadsworth, Ohio; Mrs. Cleda McCurdy, Stow, Ohio and Mrs. Alton kauffman, Akron, Ohio. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. C.I. Pentoney, Berkeley Springs; 22 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Preceding funeral services at the Methodist Church, the Methodist Choir, under the direction of Paul Stotler, assembled at the home and sang Mr. Widmyer's favorite hymn, "Beautiful Garden of Prayer." Funderal services were conducted by the Rev. Henry H. Rowland, Monday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Rowland spoke from the text, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith,"-St. Paul's Second letter to Timothy. This was a request of the deceased.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Evangelical church, Spohrs Cross Roads, conducted by the Rev. F.R. Isaace, pastor of the local Methodist Church, and burial in adjacent summary. Mrs. Householder, who was a sister of J.K. and Geo. A. Widmyer and Mrs. C.I. Pentoney, is survived by here husband and Mrs. C.I.Pentoney, issurvived by her husband and the following named children: Mrs. Charles McBee, Mrs. Luther Kesecker. Mrs. Harry Harden, Mrs. Zella Householder and Harley and Kelly Householder. |

(Witness) Obit | She witnessed the Obit of John William McBee on 22 March 1945 at Morgan Messenger, Berkeley Springs, Morgan, West Virginia, John William McBee, 78 years, 6 months and 17 days, died Monday, March 19, in City Hospital, Martinsburg, where he had been a patient for five weeks. A Son of the late Joseph and Sarah Householder McBee, he was a native of this county and a highly respected resident and farmer of the Grape Hill section of Allen District. Surviving are his widow, seven sons and two daughters, Wilbur, of Hedgesville; Mrs. O.B. Weber, Charles K. McBee, Miss Lillie McBee, marlin, Renzie and Donald McBee, of this county; John G. McBee, of Mountain Lake Park, Md., and Brent McBee, of Washington, D.C. Also surviving are 37 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock at Spohrs Cross Roads Evangelical Church with the Rev. E.D. Spencer, the pastor, officiating. Six sons of the deceased served as bearers. Grandchildren were flower bearers. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.3 |
