Iden, of Morgantown; three daughters-Mrs. Audra Evans, of Bayard, Miss Josie Iden of Davis, and Mrs. Nellie Minney, of Buckhannon; two sisters-Mrs. Agnes Braithwaite, of Berkeley Springs and Mrs. May Batt, of Alcoa, Tenn; 14 Grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Mr. Iden was a retired lumberman and had lived at Davis for many years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Funeral services were held in Davis Friday, February 13. Interment was in the Davis cemetery. Attending the funeral from Berkeley Springs were Mr. And Mrs. Boyd Iden, Mrs. Harry Busey and Mrs. Agnes Braithwaite.8 |

Obit | Henry Martin's obituary was published in the Morgan Messenger on 23 March 1944: Henry Martin Ruppenthal, 77, prominent as a business man, fruit growe4r and legislator who retired about 14 years ago, died at 1:25 a.m. Sunday March 19, at the home of his son, Virgil H. Ruppenthal, LaVale, Md., where he had been residing for the past two and a half years. He had been in declining health for several years. As a staunch Republican, he was active in politics in Morgan County and his counsel was often sought by others engaged in politics. He served two terms in the State legislature from 1908 to 1912. From 1912 to 1916 he served as sheriff and treasurer of Morgan County. He was well known as a farmer and orchardist and at one time had the largest apple and peach orchard in this section of the country. He received his home place in the Highland section from hi parents, the late Henry M. and Catherine Fritzman Ruppenthal, who came to this country from Rhine Valley in Germany when they were ten years of age. He was one of the pioneers in growing fruit commercially in Morgan County and took the lead in doing the preliminary work necessary prior to the location of a branch of the Interwoven Stocking Company here. For many years he was considered the largest individual owner of real estate in the county. He was a member of the United Brethren Church and of the P.O.S. of A., while that organization had a lodge here. Surviving are: seven sons-Floyd H. Ruppenthal of Berkeley Springs; the Rev. Harry P. Services were held Tuesday at 4 p.m. from the United Brethren Church here with the Rev. Dr. Paul Gruver, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Walter M. Michael of Cumberland, Md., officiating. Interment was in Greenway Cemetery here. Bearers were W. Jack Hunter, Fred Newbraugh, James Carter, Harry VanGosen, Henry Gorrell and Lawrence Michael.8 |
(Witness) Bio | Henry Martin Ruppenthal was 18 years old when his father died. He managed the farm until age 21 when he became to owner as stated in his father's will. He took care of his mother until her death. Henry and ida moved to Berkeley Springs in 1912 where he served as sheriff of Morgan County from 1912 to 1916. He served two terms in the West Virginia Legislature, 1908 to 1912. He was one of the pioneers in growing fruit commercially in Morgan County, and at one time had the largest apple and peach orchard in this section of the county. Henry and Ida were United Brethren and staunch Republicans.2 |

He is survived by two daughters, Ida Lea Gray and Marian Park, both of Berkeley Springs; two sons, Marlin McBee Jr. and Bobbie McBee, both of Berkeley Springs; one brother, James Brent McBee of Berkeley Springs; one half-brother, Donald S. McBee of Berkeley Springs; 12 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 16, at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Henry Fisher officiating. Internment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, today, Wednesday, November 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to services on Thursday.5 |
