He is survived by his wife, Nancy R. Mellott Iden, whom he married April 25, 1952; two sons, Thomas K. Iden and Jeffrey Iden, both of Hancock; two sisters, Shirley Mills of Hancock and Patsy Morris of Warfordsburg, Pa; four brothers, Junior Iden, Paul Iden, James Iden and Melvin Iden, all of Hancock; three grandchildren; one great grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Collins Getson and three brothers, Clyde Iden, Fred Iden and Harry Iden. Services were held Thursday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main Street, Hancock, with the Rev. Frank Heidler officiating. Burial was in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, where military graveside rites were conducted by Hancock and Berkeley Springs American Legion and VFW posts.5 |

Allen, the prosecuting attorney for Morgan County during the 1940s. She owned and operated the Warm Springs Restaurant in Berkeley Springs during the late 1940s. Surviving are three daughters, Mary JoAnn Harris, and Janet Belle Kave, both of Berkeley Springs, and Margaret Lucille Collins, Inwood; two sons, Merle F. Busey, Harrisburg, Pa., and Paul M. Busey, Inwood; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry "Harry" M. Busey on January 22, 1972; one son, George Henry Busey; three sisters, Audra Waugh, Della Iden, Ervil Iden; four brothers, Harry D. Iden, A. Boyd Iden, Wade Iden, and Jesse B. Iden. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7 at Francis Asbury Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs, with the Rev. Donna J. Martin officiating. Interment was at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 8, at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Va.6 |

She worked as a looper at the Interwoven Hosiery Mill, Berkeley Springs. For many years, she worked at the polls during elections. She has been a homemaker in recent years. Surviving are one son, J.D. Iden, Woodbine, MD; four daughters, Anna Marie Somers, Fallston, MD, Peggy Michael and Barbara Yost, both of Berkeley Springs, and Carol Sue Sterling, Rock Hill, SC; one sister, Clara Emma Spielman, Ft. Pierce, FL; 12 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alston Boyd Iden on May 13, 1998; two daughters, Darlene Iden and Patty Iden; one grandson; six sisters, Sadie Rankin, Olive Hewett, Mary Litten, Adelaide Kunkleman, Lucille Iden and Marguerite Whittington; six brothers, Clyde Hewett, John Hewett, Wade Hewett, Lee Hewett, Clarence Hewett and Fred Hewett. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Harrison Avenue, Berkeley Springs, with Pastor Wayne Frum officiating. Until two months ago he operated a grocery and service station on the Martinsburg Road just beyond the town limits. He retired due to ill health but continued as representative for the State Farm Mutual Insurance Co., and the operation of a tourist court. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at First Evangelical U.B. Church with the Rev. Paul J. Slonaker officiating. Bearers were Vernon, Benton and Melvin Wilson, Hammond Shriver, E.H. Surviving are the husband; three step-children-Mrs. Jane Wood and Wallace Noland, Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Al Joblanka, Grand Prairie, Texas; six brothers-the Rev. Harry P. Ruppenthal, Durham, N.C; Paul and Lester, Martinsburg; Henry M. and Ercel, Berkeley Springs; Virgil, Cumberland, Md., and two sisters-Mrs. Victor Funderburg, Martinsburg; Mrs. Fred Morgret, Berkeley Springs. She was a member of both the Great Cacapon and Highland E.U.B. churches. Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. EST, from the Parks Funeral Home, here, with the Rev. Ruppenthal, 72, retired Presbyterian minister and resident of Durham, N.C., died Thursday morning, January 6 in Watts Hospital, Durham where he had been a patient since June 16. He had been in ill health for about three years. Born near Berkeley Springs he was the son of the late Henry M. and Ida A. Iden Ruppenthal. He began his education at Keyser Preparatory School, a branch of West Virginia University, was graduated from Shenandoah Junior College, Dayton, Va., and Lebanon Valley College, Annville, Pa. He did graduate work for a period at S & M College of Texas and received his theological training at Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Va., where he received his B.D. degree. He spent about 40 years in the Presbyterian ministry, 28 of these in the Durham area. He was a veteran of World War I. After retiring in 1958, he accepted a call in 1960 to pastorate the Presbyterian Church in Roxboro, N.C., where he served until his ill health forced his final retirement in 1963. In 1958 he was awarded a special citation from the Synod of North Carolina for his outstanding service in the ministry. Surviving are his wife, the former Erma Ruth Tutwiler, a native of Harrisonburg, Va; two daughters, Mrs. Lois Wethington of Annville, Pa., and Mrs. Ethel Barlow of Dothan, Ala; five grandchildren; four brothers, Ercel B. and Henry M., both of Berkeley Springs; Virgil H. of LaVale, Md; Paul M. of Martinsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Frieda Morgret of Berkeley Springs and Mrs. Oakla Funderburg of Martinsburg. Funeral services were conducted Saturday in Durham. Attending from here were Mrs. Fred Morgret, Mrs. Lacy McCoy and Mr. And Mrs. J.D. Clark. Burial was in the Woodbine Cemetery, Harrisonburg, Va., on Sunday with Dr. Harry Grim, Strasburg, Va., officiating. Dr. Grim was a college roommate of Rev. Ruppenthal and has been a frequent visitor to Berkeley Springs. Attending burial services from this area were Mr. And Mrs. Henry M. For a number of years, he owned and operated a confectionery and a radio business before moving to Cumberland, Md., where he operated a television and electronics business. He was a former member of the Center Street Methodist Church, Cumberland, and upon retirement a few years ago, moved to Florida. Surviving are his wife, the former Lora Ruth Crosby; two daughters, Mrs. Snyder A. Lanier, Huntsville, Tex; Mrs. Robert W. Hurlbrink, Reading, Pa; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Morgret, Berkeley Springs; Mrs. Victor Funderburg, Martinsburg; three brothers, Ercel and Henry M. Ruppenthal, Jr., both of Berkeley Springs; Paul M. Ruppenthal, who died in 1967. Born in Lone Fountain, Va., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Minnie Crosby. She was a member of the First Church of the Brethren, Wyomissing. Surviving are two daughters, Margaret Ann (Mrs. Robert W.) Hurlbrink, with whom she last resided, and Ruth Marie (Mrs. Sidney A.) Lanier, Bluffton, Texas; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The Hemminger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Ruppenthal and her husband owned and operated the Fairfax Restaurant from 1921 to 1934. From 1933 to 1937 they operated a candy and peanut business next to the restaurant. They left Berkeley Springs in 1937 for Cumberland, Md. and started Ruppenthal's Music Service that served the tri-state area until 1952. They retired in 1955 to travel and live in the Florida Keys and Miami area.9 |
