He became ill while in Florida and entered the hospital after returning here. A native of Morgan county, he was born on May 12, 1902, a son of the late Henry and Ida Iden Ruppenthal. He was last employed by the Department of Agriculture but previously had been a Shell Oil distributor and operated an appliance store. He had also been a building contractor. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church and the B.P.O. of Elks of Martinsburg. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Viola Marshall Ruppenthal; son, Theodore H. Ruppenthal, Martinsburg; three daughters-Mrs. Ralph Sherwood, Inwood; Mrs. D. Robert Jones, Biglerville, Pa; Miss Elizabeth Ruppenthal, at home; five grandchildren; five brothers-Virgil Ruppenthal, Cumberland, Md; the Rev. H.P. Ruppenthal, Durham, N.C; E.B. and Henry Ruppenthal, Berkeley Springs; Paul Ruppenthal, Martinsburg; and two sisters-Mrs. Fred Morgret, Berkeley Springs; Mrs. Victor Funderberg, Miami, Fla. Another son, Richard Ruppenthal, was killed in Korea. Services are being held today, Thursday, at 2 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home with his pastor, the Rev. J. Raymond Wood, officiating. Born January 20, 1905, in Morgan County, he was the son of the late Henry and Ida Iden Ruppenthal. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Helena Hoffman Ruppenthal on November 27, 1995. He was a well-known Martinsburg businessman, having been the owner and operator of Fleetwood Gas Distributors; owner and developer of the North End Airport; builder and developer of Sky-Lyn Park and one of the original founders of the Opequon Public Service District and various other projects. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon and a member of the board of trustees. He also was a member of U.C.T. He is survived by one daughter, Phyllis jean Smith of Virginia Beach, Va; two sons, Medford Paul Ruppenthal of Martinsburg, and Samuel Henry Ruppenthal of Sunrise, Fla; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. As the last member of his immediate family he was preceded death by three sisters, Claddie Noland, Frieda Morgret and Oakla Funderburg; and six brothers, Lester, Virgil, Rev. Harry P., Ercel B., Henry and Floyd. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 5, at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, with the Rev. Robert S. Hill Jr. officiating. Born I Morgan County February 22, 1907, she was a daughter of Henry M. and Ida Iden Ruppenthal. Her husband, Fred Hunter Morgret, died in 1967. She was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School, where she served as editor-in-chief of the first yearbook ever published in Morgan County. She attended Shenandoah College in Dayton, Va., and returned to Morgan County to teach school. She was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church; active in many phases of church work, and was a member of the parsonage committee. She was a member of the Senior Woman's Club; a charter member of the hospital auxiliary, where she manned the visitors desk for many years in the hospital and served as co-chairman of volunteer service. She worked untiringly in the Red Cross blood program. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J.D. Clark, Berkeley Springs, and Mrs. A. Hart McKinley, Jr., of Hancock, Md; one sister, Mrs. Oakla Funderburg, of Miami, Fla; three brothers, Ercel Ruppenthal and Henry M. Ruppenthal, II, Berkeley Springs, and Paul Ruppenthal, of Martinsburg; five grandsons and one great grandson. Services were conducted Wedn3esday, February 5, art Francis Asbury UM Church by her pastor, the Rev. Herbert Weaver, and her former pastor, the Rev. Donald Stewart, with interment in Greenway Cemetery. Arrangements were by Hunter Funeral Home. The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to either War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or to the Morgan County Cancer Fund.8 |

He was born in Morgan County September 9, 1909, son of Mrs. Hattie Beeler Allemong, Berkeley Springs, and the late Benjamin Allemong. He was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School. Appointed to the postal service as a city carrier in Washington, D.C., July 1, 1936, was transferred to Berkeley Springs when city delivery was inaugurated January 1, 1949. On April 1, 1957, he was appointed a rural carrier, the position he held until his retirement June 30, 1973. An active member of First United Methodist Church, he filled various official positions and was serving as chairman of the board of trustees. He was a member of the Berkeley Springs Junior Order of American Mechanics and was West Virginia state conductor. He is survived by his mother; his wife, the former Katherine Ruppenthal, at the home; three sons, Douglas, of Martinsburg; David, Winchester, Va; and Stephen, of Berkeley Springs; four grandchildren; three brothers, James, Silver Spring, Md; Elmo and Frank, both of Berkeley Springs, three sisters, Mrs. Reva Michael, Berkeley Springs; Mrs. Eileen Reeder, Marlowe Heights, Md., and Mrs. Betty Dorsey, Tulsa, Okla. Services were held at the First UM Church, Monday August 13, conducted by Rev. Monroe Shearer. Interment was in Greenway Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Johnson Funeral Home where memorial services were conducted by the Jr. OUAM Sunday evening. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Morgan County War Memorial Hospital or the Hott Bible Class of First UM Church.4 |

Obit | Ida Kathern's obituary was published in the Morgan County H & GS Bulletin on 30 October 2005: Long time Morgan County resident and one of the founding members of the Society Ida Kathern Allemong passed away on October 29, 2005 at the age of 92. She enjoyed wonderful physical and mental health until the last few months of her life. She was able to continue her support of the Society through helping with research requests, both in the Morgan Room or from home, until last year. Kathern was born in the Ridge area of Morgan County in March, 1913. Her parents were Floyd H. and Melvie R. (Hovermale) Ruppenthal. Kathern graduated from Bath District High School in 1931 and attended Shepherd College for 2 years. She then taught school at Sphors Cross Roads, New Hope and Red Hill. In 1937 she married Lewis A. Allemong of Morgan County. The couple moved to Washington DC where Kathern worked for the General Accounting Office until her first child was born. The family returned to their native Morgan County in 1949. In the late 1950s Kathern returned to teaching elementary school after having raised her children. She returned to Shepherd College and obtained her degree in 1961. She continued her education doing graduate work at WVU and Shippensburg College. Kathern retired from teaching in 1975. She then began working earnestly in the field of local genealogy the love of which had been inspired by her 10th grade English teacher, Kathryn Johnson. Kathern went on to compile, publish, co-publish several family histories (Two offered by the Society are The Ruppenthal Family History and the Batt/Batte Family.) obituaries, graveyard histories, school histories and the Genealogical History of Morgan County and its People. In 2002, Kathern was honored with the West Virginia History Hero Award by the State Legislature. In addition to being an active member of the Society, Kathern was a long and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, West Virginia Association of Retired Persons, National Retired Teachers Association and Morgan County Retired School Employees. |

He is survived by his wife, the former Frieda Ruppenthal; two daughters, Mrs. J.D. Clark, Berkeley Springs, and Mrs. A Hart McKinley, Jr., Hancock, Md., four grandsons; three half-sisters, Mrs. Lola Phillips Dawson, Berkeley Springs; Mrs. Carl Ditto, Virginia Beach, Va; and Mrs. Jane DeVore, East Brady, Pa. Also surviving are three half-brothers-R. Hunter Phillips, Washington; John A. Phillips, New Castle, Pa., and John P. Phillips, Berkeley Springs. The body was removed from the Hunter Funeral Home Sunday or services at 2 p.m. at the Berkeley Springs Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald S. Stewart officiating. Obit | Oscar Brent (O.B.)'s obituary was published in the Morgan Messenger on 24 June 1970: Death came peacefully during sleep early Monday morning to Oscar Brent "Obie" Weber, 80, well-known educator and businessman, at his home in New Hope. Born in Morgan County; December 27, 1889, he was the son of the late George Edward and Molly Hinckle Weber. He received his education in the new Hope Grade School and at Shepherd College and he taught school from 1907 until 1911 and had been a substitute teacher since that time. He was elected a director of the Peoples Mutual Fire Insurance Company of West Virginia in 1912 and in 1914 was elected president of the company, a position he has served in ever since. Weber was a past president of the Morgan County Farm Bureau, the Morgan County Fair Association and of the Morgan County Board of Education. He has also been a member of the Jr. O.U.A.M. for 53 years. He had served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church since 1914 and as an elder of the Berkeley Springs Church until May 13, 1928, when he became elder of the newly formed Church at New Hope, a position he held until the time of his death. Mr. Weber served in all the courts of the church having been commissioned to the general assembly in 1949. A well-known educator, he was made secretary of the Allen District Board of Education in 1912, serving until 1924. In 1933, he was appointed to the first county unit board by Dr. W.W. Trent and served four years until resigning to accept employment in Baltimore, Md. In 1948, he was elected to the Board of Education in Morgan County and had compiled a total of 36 years of board service, making him the oldest member in number of year's service in West Virginia. He had been a director on the West Virginia Board Association for four years. He also served diligently as a member of the administrative committee for the Rumsey Vocational School which has been built near Hedgesville and will begin operating this fall. In addition, Weber worked for 23 years for the Continental Can Company as a specialized mechanic, traveling over five states designing, building and installing the machinery in three states. He married the former Laura Grace McBee on March 28, 1911, who survives at the home. In addition to his wife, survivors include seven sons-Fred Weber, Philadelphia, Pa; Glenn S. Weber, and Donald Weber, Vienna, Va; Lloyd E. Weber, Orlando, Fla; Bruce L. Weber, Arlington, Va; and Calvin J. and Elmer e. Weber, both of Berkeley Springs; three daughters-Mrs. Nearissa Carper, Martinsburg; Mrs. Geraldine Willard and Mrs. June Brown, both of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Mrs. Lulu Bryant, Arlington; Mrs. Eleanor Johnson, Winchester, Va; 17 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. The body is at the Hunter Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs with services conducted Wednesday; at 2 p.m. at the new Hope Presbyterian Church by his pastor, the Rev. Thomas W. Jackson. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Spohr's Crossroads.1 |

His work took him to many of the company's plants across the United States and to several foreign countries. At a young age he was baptized and later joined the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Morgan County. After going to Philadelphia, Pa., he transferred his membership to the Arch Street Presbyterian Church where he eventually was elected to the board of trustees. In 1954 he joined the Mayfair United Presbyterian Church where he served for many years as a Sunday School teacher, member of the board of session and sang in the choir. He is survived by his wife, the former Katherine Williams; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn Ruth) Clark and Mrs. Scott (Margaret Ellen) Manaker; one granddaughter, five brothers, Glenn Weber of Oakton, Va., Bruce Weber of Arlington, Va., Don, Calvin and Edmund Weber of Berkeley Springs; three sisters, Nearissa Carper of Martinsburg, Geraldine Willard and June Brown of Berkeley Springs and many nieces nephews grand nieces and nephews.2 |

Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 1483 conducted services at 7:000 p.m. Wednesday, November 9 at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Hoe, Berkeley Springs. Obit | Laura Ruth's obituary was published in the Morgan Messenger on 5 March 1987: Laura R. Ruppenthal, 87, of 3108 Octagon Ave., Sinking Spring, Pa., died on February 25, 1987, in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient for one week. She was a widow of Virgil H. Ruppenthal, who died in 1967. Born in Lone Fountain, Va., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Minnie Crosby. She was a member of the First Church of the Brethren, Wyomissing. Surviving are two daughters, Margaret Ann (Mrs. Robert W.) Hurlbrink, with whom she last resided, and Ruth Marie (Mrs. Sidney A.) Lanier, Bluffton, Texas; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The Hemminger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Ruppenthal and her husband owned and operated the Fairfax Restaurant from 1921 to 1934. From 1933 to 1937 they operated a candy and peanut business next to the restaurant. They left Berkeley Springs in 1937 for Cumberland, Md. and started Ruppenthal's Music Service that served the tri-state area until 1952. They retired in 1955 to travel and live in the Florida Keys and Miami area.7 |
