Gene M. Curtis, 72, of Holiday, Fla., formerly of Athens, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at his residence. A native of McMinn County, he moved to Holiday, Fla., from Athens in 1981. He was a son of the late Ruel Mayo and Onie Lee Brannon Curtis and was preceded in death by one son, David E. Curtis. He was the former owner of Curtis Transmission Service in Holiday, Fla., and was a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church in Holiday, Fla., and a member of Meridian Sun Lodge No. 50 F&AM in Athens.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Helen C. Burger Curtis of Holiday, Fla; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda D. and Tommie Hope of Athens; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark D. and Deborah Curtis of Holiday, Fla., Darwin ?Sam? and Judy Curtis of Trinity, Fla., Dale C. Curtis of Holiday, Fla., and Janice L. Curtis of Holiday, Fla; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Myrtle Williams of Athens; and one brother and sister-in-law, Ruel Lee and Louise Curtis of Athens. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at South Liberty Cemetery with the Rev. Ricky Atkins officiating.1

Timothy Jahue Stanton, 58, of Ocoee, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at his residence. Stanton, a native of Athens, had lived in Houston, Texas, for half of his life and moved back to McMinn County in 2001. He was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church of Etowah. He was a mechanic and enjoyed working on cars. He loved to fish and had a big heart for others.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Ann Stanton Hughes; his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Leona Belle Stanton; and his maternal grandparents, Browder and Sylena Price.
