A native of Cleveland, and a longtime resident of McMinn County, he was a former employee of Waupaca in Etowah and was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Decatur. Survivors include his father, David Howard of Athens; his mother, Ebra Haney Benson of Athens; one brother and sister-in-law, Luke and Camille Benson of Knoxville; one sister and brother-in-law, Jenny and Chris Partain of Alcoa; his grandparents, Earl and Dot Haney and Annie K. Haney, all of Athens; two nephews, Wyatt Parker and Benson Evan Partain; and many caring uncles, aunts, and cousins. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Sullins Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dustin Nelson, Brandon Burns, Justin Adams, Frankie and Keith Boggess, Shane Arrants and James Straton. Ziegler Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.3 |

A native of Monroe County and a resident of McMinn County since 1935, he was a son of the late James Oliver and Blanche Crowder Isbill. He was a former employee of local textile industry and retired from Thomas and Betts after 24 years of service. He was an active member of McMahan Calvary Baptist Church for more than 50 years and served as chairman of the board of deacons. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Meridan Sun Lodge No. 50 F&AM for more than 45 years. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ross Isbill and Leroy Moses of Athens. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ruth Haney Isbill of Athens; one son, Jack L. Isbill Sr. of Etowah; one sister, Pauline Cardin of Madisonville; two grandchildren, Leslie Paige Moore of Chattanooga, and Jack Lee Isbill Jr. of Athens; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Gilbert Roberts and the Rev. J.B. Crisp officiating. Burial will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Austin Malone, Zane Ferguson, Ray Plemons, Delbert Guthrey, Tom Collins, and Daryle Galyon. Honorary pallbearers will be Beecher Kyker, Dean Womac, Boyd Carver, Tommy Rountree, Johnny Watson, Benny Rountree, and Earl Haney. Masonic services will be Monday at 8 p.m. by Meridian Sun Lodge No. 50 of Athens. Obit | Raymond Lee (Buddy)'s obituary was published in the Daily Post-Athenian on 11 March 2014: Raymond "Buddy" Stanton, 81, of Riceville, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at a local healthcare facility. A son of the late Raymond Solomon and Leona Belle Baysinger Stanton, he was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Hiwassee Baptist Church and an avid collector of guns and knives. He enjoyed the outdoors, was an excellent fisherman, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Stanton; sisters, Linda Long and Barbara Stanton; daughter, Judy Ann Hughes; and son, Timothy Stanton. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Ricky and Cyrethea Stanton of Cleveland, and Raymond and Brenda Stanton of Calhoun, Ga; six daughters and their husbands, Debbie and Ronnie Shelton of Pikeville, Wanda and James Martin of Madisonville, Dean Pina of Winston Salem, N.C., Tammy Stanton of Rome, Ga., Barbara and Jeff Taylor of Athens, and Paula and Bobby Cate of Athens; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Patsy Stanton of Athens; sister and brother-in-law, Norma Jean and Sonny Carroll of Athens; and a special friend, Wanda Jane Cruz. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends also survive. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 14, in the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Pastor Jack Bryan officiating. Interment followed in Sullins Cemetery with Raymond Stanton, Rick Stanton, Timothy Stanton, Travis Blackwell, Jonathan Presley, James Presley, Luther Haggard, Jerry Stanton, and Rickey Stanton serving as pallbearers.2 |
