Jacob Lynch's obituary was published in the Chattanooga Times on 2 March 1908:
Cleveland, Tenn., March 1. – Last night at 12:20 o’clock, the death of J.L. Eldredge, one of Cleveland’s most prominent merchants, occurred at his home on Ocoee Street, death being due to heart failure. Mr. Eldredge had been in poor health for almost a year, and recently went to John Hopkins hospital, in Baltimore, for treatment, and on his return home, it was believed he was much improved in health. Mr. Eldredge had been down town most of the day yesterday and in the evening ate his supper and appeared to be in his usual health, but a few minutes after midnight the flame of life flickered out with but a moment’s warning.
Deceased was 46 years of age, and is survived by his wife, two sons, one daughter, his aged father, Jefferson Eldredge, and four brothers, the latter being James A., of Tasso, John and Jim, of this city, and Nathaniel of Pocatello, Idaho. The funeral will take place from the Southern Methodist Church, of which deceased was a member, at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon. The Rev. John C. Orr, Dr. David Sullins and the Rev. S. T. Senter will conduct the funeral ceremonies.⁶

John W. Eldredge, a brother of former Bradley County judge Nat Eldredge, died Sunday morning at his home her on Harle Avenue N.W. A lifelong resident of Bradley County, he was a son of the late Lynch and Ulissa Edwards Eldredge. He was a member of Broad Street Methodist Church of Cleveland.
Besides his brother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Iva Thomas Eldredge of Cleveland; a sister Margaret Eldredge, also of Cleveland; two uncles, Sim V. Eldredge of Cleveland, and Nat M. Eldredge of Pocatello, Idaho. Funeral services will be conducted from Broad Street Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Monday by the pastor, the Rev. Marquis J. Triplett. Burial will be in Fort Hill cemetery.⁹

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Eldredge; one son, Nat Eldredge; grandson, Buddy Eldredge, all of Cleveland, Tenn; three nephews, Jim and John Eldredge, both of Cleveland; Jeff Eldredge, Murfreesboro, Tenn; two nieces, Mrs. Carl Shugart, Mrs. Nell Reynolds, both of Cleveland. He was a member of the Broad Street Methodist Church and the Mayfield Sunday School Class of the church. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning at 10 o’clock from the Broad Street Methodist Church by the pastor, Dr. Marquis.⁷
