Survivors include: wife, Ruby Stratton Curtis, daughter, Mariyn Trull of Andrews, daughter, Linda Schaffer of Andrews, daughter, Nancy Curtis of Naples, Fla., daughter, Pam Mashburn of Andrews, daughter, Karen Cook of Brasstown, son, Michael Curtis of Andrews, son, Barry Curtis of Andrews, son, Steve Curtis of Andrews, son, Jeffery Curtis of Andrews, brother, Tom Curtis of Andrews, sister, Sue Queen of Andrews, sister, Claudia Jean Matheson, of Delaware, fourteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. Ira's obituary was published in the an unknown place on circa 19 July 1923: Ira Cole, one of the county's prominent farmers and citizens, died at his home near Madisonville July 18, 1923, after an extended illness. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn because of his departure. He was 51 years, four months and fifteen days old. Besides his wife and four children he leaves three brothers and four sisters, and his mother, they being J.L. Cole, of Madisonville, J.N. Cole, Madisonville; G.E. Cole, Ducktown; Mrs. Ollis Thompson, Knoxville, Mrs. Sallie Cox, Knoxville; Mrs. Sarah Quinn, Lynch, Ky., Mrs. Flossie Shearer, Ducktown; and his mother, Mrs. John M. Cole, Ducktown and a host of relatives and friends who are saddened by his death. He left consoling evidence of a Christian life and faith to his loved ones. He professed faith in Christ in the early years of his life and united with the Grassy Creek Baptist Church about fourteen years ago; he later moved his membership to Rocky Springs Baptist Church, where it remained at the time of his death. The funeral service was conducted in the Baptist Church at Madisonville by Rev. W.A. Carroll and Rev. Wright Webb, and internment was in the Madisonville cemetery. He was buried with Masonic honors by the lodge at this place. He had attained to the higher degrees of Masonry.6 |
