Obit | William Donald's obituary was published in the Herald Democrat on 26 January 2010: Bonham - A memorial service for William Donald "Dugan" Curtis, 81, of Bonham, will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Wise Funeral Home in Bonham. He passed away Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 in McKinney. Dugan was born June 13, 1928 in Weatherford to Don Carlos Curtis and Mattie Lee (Madeline) Eddleman. He attended Louisiana State University on a football scholarship before transferring to Southern Methodist University to study business. Dugan then enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served six years and fought as a staff sergeant in the Korean War, during which he earned a Purple Heart. In 1952, he married Mary Ann "Mike" Pulliam. Children Michael Shane and Kimberly Kay were born soon after. Dugan began his career in sales in the building supply industry. In 1967, he started his own construction management company. Dugan's strong work ethic and reputation for finishing a job in record time kept himself and his family busy building apartments, hotels, homes, and churches for Dallas, Texas investors for more than 40 years. In 1997, he bought Paldao Ranch just outside of Bonham. The following year, he moved from Dallas to Bonham and quickly installed himself in the local community. He was active with Fannin County CASA, the Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce, Fannin County Republican Party, Fannin County Family Crisis Center, Trinity Episcopal Church, and countless boards and committees. He was honored for his service in 2003 when he was named Citizen of the Year. Dugan will be remembered for his larger than life personality, his sense of adventure, his love for his family, and his deep commitment to improving the life of every person he met. Dugan was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Mattie Curtis; siblings, Helen Granbery, Dorothy Bynum, Charles Curtis, Marjorie Brooks, Nona Norris, Carl Curtis, Barbara Higdon; wife, Mary Ann "Mike" Curtis; children, Shane Curtis and Kimberly Pinson; and great-grandson, Shane Ray Curtis. Survivors include his brother, Fred Curtis and wife, Greta, of Longview; grandchildren, John Curtis and wife, Mandy, of Bonham, Leslie Pinson of Dallas, Katy Curtis, of Austin, Alex Curtis, of Richardson; great-granddaughter, Macy Curtis of Bonham; numerous nieces and nephews.
