Obit | Lillian Pearl's obituary was published in the La Plata Home Press on September 1928: Lillian Pearl Curtis, the daughter of John and Laura M. Curtis was born in Macon County, Mo., March 26, 1890, and departed this life at the home near Gifford, Mo., September 19, 1926, being at the time of her death 38 years, 3 months and 24 days. On Dec. 22, 1908 she was united in marriage to Haskell Magers. She united with the Baptist church at Gifford in 1912 and remained a member of that church until this spring when she called for her letter to unite with the La Plata Baptist church. She leaves her mother, Mrs. Laura M. Curtis, a twin brother, William Curtis and his family in addition to her husband above mentioned. Her father preceded her in death several years ago. Rev. Watts, pastor of the Baptist church here conducted the funeral services on Friday. Dr. S. W. Saunders assisting with the singing. Burial was made in the LaPlata cemetery.2 |

Obit | Haskel's obituary was published in the La Plata Home Press on 10 May 1962: Haskel Magers, 77, retired farmer of South Gifford, died in a Kirksville hospital at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. He had been in poor health for some time. He was born near South Gifford May 12, 1884, the son of John and Margaret (Hall) Magers. He was married December 22, 1908 to Lillian Pearl Curtis who preceded him in death. On November 1, 1936, he married Ruby (Easley) Buck. He is survived by his wife; one son, Haskel D. Magers of Ft. Ord, California, one daughter, Mrs. M.V. (Donna) Sutton of Blackwater; two step-chidren, Bobby Buck of La Plata and Mrs. Marvin (Irene) McIntosh of San Clements, California; one brother, Ben Magers of La Plata and five step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter who died in infancy; five brothers and two sisters. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the La Plata Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Frank Claiborne. Burial was in the La Plata Cemetery with McCollum Funeral Home of South Gifford in charge.6 |
