Mrs. W.R Self Succumbs at Home of Son. Heart Attack Fatal to McKinney Woman; Funeral Services Friday Afternoon.
Mrs. Julia Green Self, aged 67 years, 7 months, and 12 days died at the home of her son, Wesley Self, 808 West Howell Street, at 8:30 o'clock Thursday night after two days illness caused from a heart attack. Funeral services were helf this (Friday) afternoon at 3 o'clock at Wilson Chapel, conducted by Rev. Milton Greer, Dr. R. L. Cowan and Rev. D. A. Griggs. Burial was in the Wilson Chapel Cemetery under the direction of the Isaac Crouch Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased as follows: Leonard Clark, Lawrence Brooks, Weldon Brooks, Verne B. Brooks, Clovis Rudledge and J.C. Rutledge.
Mrs. Self was born September 11, 1869 in DeKalb County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Rev. Mack Curtis and wife. In the year 1886 she was united in marriage to W. K. (R.) Self to which union nine children were born. Seven of these survive as follows: Mrs. Silas Brooks, Mrs. D.W. Shanks, Mrs. Lula Clark, Charlie Self, Mrs. Minnie Tarvin, Mrs. Vinnie Howard, Wesley Self, all of McKinney, and Mrs. Clarence Rutledge of Murphy. The two children who preceded her in death were Lotie Self who died July 15, 1894 and Fredie Clation Self who died in 1931. Twenty-one grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive as well as the following brothers and sisters: Henry Curtis, Bob Curtis, Roscoe Curtis, Mrs. Lucy Fowler, Mrs. Hattie Vanderpool, Mrs. Bell Spry, all of Tennessee; Howard and Almond [Ammon] Curtis of Kansas and A.E. Curtis of this city. The deceased was a member of the Dunn Memorial Baptish Church at Viney Grove No. 1 community.5

SMITHVILLE, Tenn. — Robert Lee "Bob" Wall, 90, of Bowling Green, Ky., died April 19, 2011, at the Hospice Center in Bowling Green. He was a retired TVA area supervisor and a member of State Street United Methodist Church. He served in the Army and was a World War II veteran. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a son of the late Cordie B. Wall and Laura Green Wall. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clinton Wall and his wife, Maureen, Green Wall and his wife, Maud, B.C. Wall and his wife, Ruby, and Alton Gentry Wall; a brother-in-law, J.B. Redmon; and a great-nephew, Luke Barnett. Funeral is at 2 p.m. Friday at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, with burial in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to State Street United Methodist Church or Hospice of Southern Kentucky. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Wilma Lucille Curtis Wall; a son, Jim Wall and his wife, Julia, of Smithville; a daughter, Jan Alexander of Smithville; two grandsons, John Wall and his wife, Heather, of Louisville, Ky., and Daniel Alexander of Knoxville; a granddaughter, Jenny Lynch and her husband, Doug, of Orlando, Fla; two great-grandsons, Chase and Cole Wall; a great-granddaughter, Sarah Lynch of Florida; a sister, Ruth Wall Redmon of Smithville; and two sisters-in-law, Bobbie Barnett of Georgia and JoAnn Wall of Smithville. He was dearly loved by many nieces and nephews.3
