Obit | Joseph Anderson's obituary was published in the Smithville Review on 24 June 1965: Funeral services for Joe Curtis, 80, were held yesterday, June 23, 1965 at Mount Zion Baptist Church near Alexandria, with the Rep. Garland Whitlock and the Rev. Howard Claybourne officiating. Burial was in the Mount Zion Cemetery behind the church. Mr. Curtis died Monday, June 21, 1965, in his home in Liberty after a long illness. A retired farmer, he was a native of DeKalb County, and was a member of Cooper’s Chapel Baptist Church. He was born November 27, 1884 to the late William T. “Billy” and Elizabeth “Bettie” (Halmontaller) Curtis. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lilie (Davis) Curtis; four sons, Shelton Curtis of Liberty, Joe Edward Curtis of Donelson, Don Curtis of Nashville, and Royce Curtis of Smithville; four daughters, Mrs. Mattie Morton, Mrs. Dorothy Spence, and Miss Helen Leona Curtis, all of Nashville, and Mrs. Turner Roberts of Alexandria; one brother, Bob Curtis of Watertown; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. |
