He was a member of City Wide Sertoma, Road Builders Association, Associated Builders and Contractors, and Tennessee Land Surveyors Association. Carl was known by his friends and family as a man of integrity, generosity, and unconditional love. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Mary Jane Curtis; brother, James Curtis; and nephew, Mark Curtis. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Emma Lynn Carpenter Curtis; son, Don Curtis of Chattanooga; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Tammy Curtis of Knoxville; grandchildren, Jason Curtis, Allison Curtis Snoderly, Jake Curtis; great grandchildren, Rylei Curtis; and her mother Amanda Isbell; twins, Colton and Logan Snoderly and sister Skylar Jackson; nephews, Steve Curtis and Chris Curtis; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Funeral service 7:00 pm Saturday at Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Powell with Dr. Thomas Sweet officiating.2 |

Mr. Curtis was a native of Dekalb County, Tennessee and was a son of the late Johnnie and Connie Neal Curtis, Sr. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a retired farmer. Mr. Curtis was a member and Deacon of Smyrna Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, a former alderman of the Town of Chapel Hill, a former member of the Marshall County Equalization Board and a member of the former Chapel Hill Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Curtis who died in 1992 and by a brother, Charles Curtis. Mr. Curtis is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Jim) Crutcher, Lewisburg; three sons, Ronnie (Diane) Curtis, Larry (Kathy) Curtis and Jimmy Curtis, all of Chapel Hill; two sisters, Dot Burns, Nashville, and Wanda Burns, Chapel Hill; three brothers, Ben Curtis, Lewisburg, Johnnie Curtis, Jr., Nashville, Billy Curtis, Chapel Hill; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2008 at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008 from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Tim McGehee, Jim Garrison and Rev. Roger Best officiating. Burial will follow in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill. Sons and Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. First State Bank Coffee Club and Deacons of Smyrna Baptist Church will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.2 |
