Obit | Austin Columbus's obituary was published in the Chattanooga Times on 22 June 1969: Austin C. Curtis, 66, resident of 2326 Georgetown Pike, Cleveland, died Saturday afternoon in a local hospital following an attack suffered a short time earlier. He was a resident of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio for many years and moved to Cleveland one year ago. Before his retirement he was employed by the Roy Thomas Plymouth Co. in Cuyahoga Falls. He was a member of the Big Spring Methodist Church, a Mason, and a member of the Yusey-Khan Gitto Club in Ohio. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Curtis. Survivors include his wife, the former Helen Rutherford of Cleveland; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl McCrachan and Mrs. Arthell Burger, both of Cleveland; four brothers, Fred, Otis, J.L., and James Curtis, all of Cleveland, several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Buckner Funeral Home.5 |

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the west Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home with Minister Harry Prather officiating. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be David Varl, Aston Jones, John Lockman, Lewis Waghn, bob McAlester and Howard O’Neal. The body is at the West Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home.7 |
