He was a native of Haywood County and the son of the late William Pink Underwood, Sr. and Laura Gaddy; Underwood and a retired farmer. He was a member of the Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Hattie Webb and Laura Lucille Underwood of Waynesville; a brother, Guy Underwood of Waynesville and three sisters, Lizzie Palmer and Lula Underwood of Waynesville and Martha Medford of Decatur, Georgia. Services were held Wednesday; at Crawford Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Lewis Smith, Gay Chambers and Russell Richardson officiating, with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.7

Mrs. Mary Curtis Holt, age 96, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 1992, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville. Mrs. Holt was born in Union County on Wednesday, January 17, 1906, a daughter of the late William Curtis and Vada Erwin Curtis. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Blairsville. Mrs. Holt was a very faithful member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church, where she had served in many capacities, including cemetery committee and Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Holt had been preceded in death by her husband, Guss Holt, in 1985, and her son, Lee Holt, who passed away in 2000.
Survivors include grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Bill and Tina Holt, of Blairsville; great granddaughter, Arden Holt, also of Blairsville; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Nan Holt, of Blairsville; and niece, Vada Lee Curtis, of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at 11 a.m., from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Bob Bone officiating. Special music was presented by Mildred and Nelson LeCroy. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Bob Head, Robert Head, Travis Colwell, Jeff Tanner, Joel Miller, and Robert Rogers. Interment was in Shady Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville entrusted with the arrangements.8
