Obit | Lowell Curtis's obituary was published in the Home Press on 22 September 1955: Lowell Curtis Elliott, sixty-five, died at 4:30 a.m. September 16, in Grim-Smith Hospital in Kirksville, after suffering a heart attack. The son of H. S. and Emma Curtis Elliott, he was born June 24, 1890 near La Plata. He attended the La Plata High School and the old Kirksville Normal School. On October 14, 1914, he was married to Hazel Collins in a ceremony at Atlanta. One daughter, now Mrs. Howard Morris of Kirksville, was born. Besides his wife and daughter, there survive two brothers, Frank of La Plata and Hollis of Bozeman, Montana; a sister, Mrs. Arline Street of Bozeman, Montana; a son-in-law, Howard Morris; two grandchildren, Barry Vaughn and Ronda Marles Morris and six nephews. Active in farming for many years, Mr. Elliott was a past member of the Missouri Farm Bureau and the Farm Home Administration and belonged to the Macon County Livestock Association. He was also a member of the Illinois Bend Christian Church which he joined as a youth. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. Funeral services were at 2:30 Sunday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church. Rev. Harved Johnson, assisted by Rev. Fred Hudson, officiated. Special music was by a quartet composed of Mrs. Paul Wilgus, Mrs. Lawrence Love, Dr. Ralph Gillet and Jack Kurtz. Mrs. George Rigg was organist. Pallbearers were Rose Burnett, Bill Coons, Clark Macon, Raymond Flinchpaugh, Paul Jones and Clifford Wilgus. Burial was in the La Plata Cemetery under the direction of the Wilson Funeral Home.7 |

Dewey Street, 85, lifelong resident of the Gallatin Valley. Interment followed at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Street died Dec. 8 at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. Street was born March 27, 1898 in Springhill, son of Theodore and Lillian Street, Gallatin Valley pioneers. He attended the Decker Elementary School on Springhill Road and the Gallatin County High School. He married Arline Elliot on July 10, 1927 in Bozeman. Following his graduation from Montana State College he went to work for Security Bank where he remained for 51 years. Street served as bank president from 1951 to 1967. At the time of his death, he was a Director Emeritus of the bank. He served as president of the Montana Bankers Association in 1968 and 1969. Street was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and a Life Loyal Sig of the fraternity. He served as a longtime member of the Deaconess Hospital Board and past chairman of the Masonic Temple Board. He served as sustaining member of the Boy Scouts of America and as a member of the Sons and Daughters of the Pioneers. Survivors include his wife, Bozeman; his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. David and Karen Street, Wichita, Kan; one daughter-in-law, Julie Street, Logan, Utah; two sisters-in-law, Hattie and Carrie Street, both of Bozeman; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, Dr. Joseph C. Street in May, 1983, six brothers and one sister.3 |

Obit | James Weldon's obituary was published in the Daily Express on 11 February 2011: James W. Elliott, 89, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Thursday (February 10, 2011) at his home. The son of Frank Arthur and Clella M. (Farmer) Elliott, he was born December 6, 1921, at his grandmother's home in Atlanta, Missouri. He lived in rural Macon County and moved to LaPlata, Missouri, when his father bought the City Bakery. On May 27, 1950, Jim was united in marriage to Jean Waddill and they resided in Carrollton, Missouri, until he was transferred to LaPlata in 1961..Jim was a graduate from LaPlata High School with the Class of 1939, where he played football, basketball, track and was a member of the band. He attended Truman State University two years and enlisted in the United States Navy Air Corp in January 1942 but was honorably discharged because of an eye problem. Two weeks later he enlisted in the United States Army and spent a total of 4 1/2 years in the service, 2 1/2 years which were spent in the jungles in Burma and India. He was discharged in 1946. Soon after his discharge, Jim got a temporary job with Standolind Pipeline, then Service Pipeline, and later it became Amoco Pipeline. After having worked in many states and the Gulf of Mexico, he retired in 1981. He was an avid fisherman, sports enthusiast, golfer, and league bowler for many years. Jim will be remembered for being a wonderful dance partner and loving husband. Jim had been a member of the LaPlata Christian Church for over seventy-five years. He was also a member of the LaPlata Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Ararat Shrine, El Kadir Shrine Club, LaPlata Lions Club, Kirksville Moose Lodge, American Legion, Kirksville Chamber of Commerce, and Joseph Baldwin Society of Truman State University. . Jim is survived by his wife, Jean of sixty years; sister-in-law, Donna Kelly and Graeme Grantham; one nephew, Kirby Bailey; two great nieces, Brittany Huffman and Bridgette Bailey and fiancée, Tom Hays Jr; one great-nephew, Kolby Bailey and one great great-nephew, Christopher Huffman as well as several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Muriel Elliott; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Virgil and Madie Waddill and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Norva and George Bailey. Public visitation will be held after noon on Saturday (February 12, 2011) with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday (February 13, 2011) at the LaPlata Christian Church with Pastor Jeremy Lobdell officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service at LaPlata Cemetery in LaPlata. Pallbearers will be Graeme Grantham, Kirby Bailey, Kolby Bailey, Neil Travis, Dennis Markeson and Merl Matticks. Honorary bearers will be Gary Noel, Deon Waddill, Robie Elliott, Kelly Snipes and Will Slaughter.2 |
