Donald was born on February 2nd, 1931 to Marion and Lona Curtis in Hanna, Oklahoma. He was one of 7 children. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1947 and was in the 45th Division, 180th Infantry of Company M. He joined the U.S. Army in 1949, did his basic training at Ft. Riley, Kansas, and was in the 1st Cavalry Division. He was transferred to Tokyo, Japan in 1949 and went on to serve in the Korean War from 1950 until he was honorably discharged in April of 1952. He was awarded several medals and received numerous commendations. He was hired by Western Electric in October of 1952 as an electrician/installer and retired from AT&T in May of 1985. He married Nellie Ruth Hooten in March of 1956 and they had 3 children: Donna Denise Curtis, Ronald Lee Curtis, & Scott Maurice Curtis. Donald is survived by his wife, Nellie; his 3 children, Donna Hysell and husband Vernon of Eufaula, Ronald Curtis and wife Cindy of Eufaula, and Scott Curtis and wife Angela of McKinney, Texas; 9 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 4 brothers, Garland Curtis of Eufaula, Leroy Curtis of Checotah, Jerry Curtis of Fredericksburg, Texas, and Fred Curtis of Deming, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Maurine Sofia of Phoenix, Arizona, and one brother, John Curtis of Eufaula. Donald was an avid sportsman and loved his hunting and fishing. He also loved spending time with his family and made sure we never left his home without a hug goodbye and an "I love you" for the road.2

He preceded her in death on August 17, 2007 after fifty years of marriage. Nellie worked for the Army Ammunition Plant and Wortham's Insurance Company, but she spent over thirty years working for the Kelsoe's at both Cedar and Checotah Manor. Nellie enjoyed working crossword puzzles, studying bible lessons and going to the Dollar Tree. Her greatest love was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.Survivors include: her sons, Ron Curtis and wife Cindy of Eufaula and Scott Curtis and wife Angela of Dallas; her daughter, Donna Hysell and husband Vernon of Eufaula; her brothers, Paul Hooten and wife Wilma of Eufaula and Bill Hooten and wife Sherry also of Eufaula, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the Eufaula Church of Christ with Minister Charlie Bailey officiating.
