ROCHELLE: Helen Vernette Curtis, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, 86, of Rochelle, died on Aug. 17, 2006 at the Rochelle Community Hospital. She was born on Dec. 12, 1919 in Ellery, the daughter of Alvia and Flossie Tinckham Chalcraft. She married Charles Curtis on Oct. 6, 1939 in Ellery and he preceded her on May 3, 2005. She was a member of the Kings Presbyterian Church and currently the First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle. Helen was employed as the head cook for the Kings School District for many years. Along with her husband, she was preceded by her sister, Mildred Metcalf. She is survived by a son, Doyle (Joyce) Curtis, of Rockford; a daughter, (Marlin) Norma Lynn Trotter, of Milledgeville; a sister, Ruby (Quentin) Roosevelt, of Albion; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Harold (Sanda) Curtis, of LaFayette; and a sister-in-law, Anise Bosecker of Rockford. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 21, 2006 at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 North Sixth Street,?with the Rev. Carl Polstra officiating. Visitation will be from 3 - 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Unger Horner Funeral Home. Burial will be in White Rock Cemetery, Kings.

He is survived by his wife, of Albion; two sons, Mike Woods of Orange Park, Fla., and Keith Woods of Albion; two daughters, Nancy Reid of Mt. Jesse D. Harms, 64, of 512 North Fair street, well known highly respected owner and operator of the Sunshine Laundry for many years, died early this morning Aug. 26, 1969, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the Schaub Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl H. Bennett officiating. Interment will be in the Crest Haven Memorial Cemetery. Members of the Center Shrine Club of Olney will conduct Memorial services at the funeral home. He was born in Olney on February 11, 1905, son of Otto C. and Lida Curtis Harms, and lived in Olney his entire lifetime where he has been very active in business and cummunity affairs. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Olney, the Olney Rotary Club, various bodies of Olney Lodge No. 140, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Olney Lodge No. 926, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and had been a member of the Cummins Municipal Band since he was a young boy.
Mr. Harms is survived by his wife, Della L. Harms; two daughters, Mrs. James (Suzanne) Hillis of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Sam (Vera) Obert of San Jose, Calivornia; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Clem (Charlene) Welker of Indianapolis, Mrs. Leroy (Lillian) Kesterson of Cisne; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Harms of 1000 East North Avenue in Olney.2
