Obit | Nellie I.'s obituary was published in the Unknown Newspaper on circa 3 March 1986: Graveside services for former Albion resident Nellie Curtis, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. March 13, at Graceland Cemetery. Mrs. Curtis died Sunday, March 2, 1986 at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Lake Worth Florida. The body was cremated and the ashes returned to the Ingram Funeral Home at Albion. A memorial service will be held Sunday, at 12:30 p.m. at Lakeside United Methodist Church in Lake Worth where she held membership. Surviving are two sons, Donald H. Curtis of Lake Worth, Florida and Leo F. Curtis of Hammond, Indiana; a brother, Frank Henderson of Albion; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren. Mrs. Curtis had been a member of First Christian Church prior to moving to Florida 18 years ago. She and her husband had farmed in the Ted Top community east of Albion before they moved to Florida. Born August 7 198 in Edwards County, her parents were Home and Fannie Marriott Henderson. She was married in 1918 to Allen Curtis, who died June 4, 1979. Also preceding her, in death, were two sisters, Faye Phieffer and Linda Over. Rev. Don Frantz will officiate at the services. March 15.8 |

He was born July 3, 1911 in Bone Gap, a son of Chester and Lily Michels. He married Gertrude Harris on Sept. 22, 1934, in Albion. She died Nov. 14, 1976. They had two children, Suzanne, who died in 1971, and Stephen (Wendy), who survives. Also surviving are two grandsons and their families, Justin and Chris Michels of Bloomington, with their two children, Parker and Hayley. Also Troy Michels of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. In addition he is survived by three sisters: Ferris Crackel, Albion, Imogene Kight, Allendale, and Nieta Hunley, Fairfield. On Dec. 16, 1978, Mr. Michels married Helen Wilhite of Danville. She survives. Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Martha Mikel and Diana Pridgen; eight step-grandchildren, Scott and Steve Wilhite, Cathy Rivera, Terri Powell and Susie Wilhite, Cheri Holland, Julie Wynn and Cindy Peevler; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A stepson, Bill Wilhite, preceded him in death in 1992. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in France and Luxembourg. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, two Battle Stars, La Croix de Guerre from the Luxembourg Government and U.S. Army Commendation Medal.6 |
