Ironically, Jeanette was born on 6 Dee 1955, the very day that Ida died. Ida and Alfred were married at her home by Rev. C. W. Siline, Methodist minister. They settled on the farm that Alfred's grandparents bought from the government. It was about 3 112miles northeast of Albion, Illinois. They made sorghum molasses for friends and neighbors for 42 years. Some years there was a lot and some years not so much. One year they made 7,000 gallons. that was the most they ever made in anyone year. One very dry year, they only made 200 gallons. But it was mostly in the thousands of gallons each year. They were both members of the Methodist Church of Simpson. Alfred was a trustee and stuart. He also was Sunday School Superintendant and chorister for a number of years. He also taught in Sunday school. Ida was a Sunday school teacher for a good many years and communion stuart for 27 years. Alfred died at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. Services were at Simpson Church held by Rev. Harry Smott. Both Ida and Alfred are buried in the Union cemetery.11 |
