Surviving are two daughters, Anna Mae Gainer and husband Harold of Montrose and Patricia Grace Hamilton of Elkins. Three brothers, Clyde Canfield, Augusta, WV, Denzil Canfield and wife Betty, Culpeper, VA and Melvin Canfield of Slanesville, WV. Three sisters, Addie Wood, Three Churches, WV, Lorrayne Lawson, Culpeper, VA and Geraldine Brinsfield of San Diego, CA. Four grandchildren, Harold Gainer, Jr. and wife Debbie, Elkins, Joe Gainer and wife Kathy, Montrose, Richard Gainer and wife Linda, Hampton, VA and Phyllis Varian and husband Rick of Montrose. Nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren also survive. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Inez Walton and Rachel Mason. Mrs. Curtis was a member of the Mercy Chapel United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher. She was a Charter Member of the United Methodist Women having received a 50 year certificate as well as a Special Mission Recognition Pin. She was active with Youth Fellowship and 4-H Clubs and was employed by Teet’s Beauty Shop, Clinton’s Shoe Store and was employed at the Country Side Gift Shop at Crystal Springs at the time of her retirement. Mrs. Curtis was the first Hot Lunch Cook in Randolph County. Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM Monday, August 29, 2005 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 30th from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. Charles Godwin and Rev. Pamela Shuman officiating. Interment will follow in the Primitive Baptist Cemetery at Montrose. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mercy Chapel Church,PO Box 52, Montrose, WV 26283 in memory of Mrs. Curtis. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Edythe Aretta Canfield Curtis.2 |
