Obit | Bette Louise's obituary was published in the Exponent/Telegram on 4 June 2004: CLARKSBURG -- Mrs. Bette Hyde Curtis, age 82, of 205 Park Blvd., Clarksburg, WV, died at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at the United Hospital Center following a brief illness. She was born in Clarksburg, WV, November 9, 1921, a daughter of the late Cecil Will Hyde and Miriam Carskadon Hyde. Surviving are a son, David E. Curtis, Denver, CO, a daughter and a son-in-law, Kay and James Utter, Lake Floyd, Bristol, WV and a grandson, David I. Utter, Lake Floyd, Bristol, WV. Mrs. Curtis was also preceded in death by a brother, C.W. Hyde, Jr. Mrs. Curtis was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clarksburg and had been an active volunteer at the church. She had been employed by the Harrison County Board of Education as a Science and Home Economics teacher. She retired in 1983 from Central Junior High School in Clarksburg after 25 years of service. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church in Clarksburg, with the Rev. Dr. Gary N. Shepard and the Reverend Etheldean Yanero presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 3959 Electric Road, Suite 222, Roanoke, Virginia 24018.
