Mrs. Hoover was born in East St. Louis, Ill. She graduated from South Denver High School and went on to the University of Colorado where she earned a B.A. degree majoring in biology and minoring in education. At the same time she won her teaching certificate. In 1933 she married Howard Hoover and moved to Olathe where they have resided since that time. Mrs. Hoover is an experienced teacher having taught as the Fairview School (District 5) for three years. Mrs. Hoover taught from 1930 to 1932 in Rock Springs, Wyo., in the science department of the high school. From 1931 to 1932 she was head of the science department. She previously taught commercial courses for one year in Walsenburg, Colo., high school. She is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. She has nine graduate hours in education at the University of Colorado. Since Mrs. Hoover’s experience in Fairview was in primary grades and her experience at Walsenburg and Rock Springs was in high schools, she has had experience at all levels of teaching in county schools. She has had more than 20 years of administrative experience co-owner and bookkeeper for the Hoover’s Frozen Foods business in Olathe from 1938 until 1955 and more recently has held the appointment of senior account clerk with the Colorado Department of Agriculture. She will resign the latter position. In addition, Mrs. Hoover has held a number of important administrative posts with various organizations. She served as chairman of the social studies and auditing committee of the American Association of University Women, an organization in which she has been an active member. She also has been chairman of the Montrose County division of the American Cancer Society for five years. She is a member of the Episcopal Church and is past president of the Fairview Mother’s Club and the Olathe Band Mothers. Mrs. Hoover was also a 4’H Club leader in 1947 and is an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi, women’s business sorority. The Hoovers have two daughters, Joan, a senior at the University of Colorado and Lynne, a freshman at the University of Colorado.1 |
