Surviving with his wife are a step-son Ronald Greer, Rochester; an adopted daughter, Singing Wind Rose, Rochester, and a sister Leona Swango, Rochester. Preceding in death was a sister, Edna Swango. Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday at Foster and Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev/ Don Miller officiating. Burial was in the Rochester I.O.O.F. He was with the E Company 110 Infantry 28th Division and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a farmer and he also drove a gravel delivery truck. Vernon is survived by sisters, Mary McGriff, Argos, and Virginia and Morris Wallace, Plymouth. Also surviving are two nephews and three nieces. His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, with the Rev. Henry Sprunger officiating. Burial will be in the Jordon Cemetery, Argos. Friends may visit with the family from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.2 |

FLYNN, 19, R.R. 3, Rochester (Riverwood Acres), has become Fulton county’s first drowning victim since Aug. 5, 1972. His body ws found by his father at 3:20 p.m. Sunday in the Tippecanoe river near the Flynn residence. Junior D. GOOD, Fulton county coroner, said the boy drowned possibly because of a seizure of epilepsy. The younth’s father, John R. FLYNN, reported him missing at 9:30 p.m. Saturday when he telephoned the sheriff’s office. The boy had been last seen by two neighbor girls at 10:30 a.m. Saurday as he was returning home from digging bait for fishing. Searches for the boy were unsuccessful Saturday night. On Sunday, 15 to 20 persons--special deputies, Civil Defense members, firemen and Conservation officer Richard EURIT, in addition to police--searched up and down the Tippecanoe river before the body was found beneath the surface near the spot on the bank from which the boy usually fished. The last previous drowning in Fulton county was Aug. 5, 1972 when Leo C. RUFFING, 63, R.R. 1, Argos, drowned in Zinks lake a mile south of Richland Center while fishing. The last previous drowning in the Tippecanoe river in Fulton county was on Feb. 18, 1971 when Leroy CHRISMAN, 18, Mentone, drowned after his car went off Ind. 25, 5 1/2 miles north of Rochester. Steven L. FLYNN was born Oct. 30, 1953 in Rochester to John R. and Ann HARDACRE FLYNN and had resided his entire life here. Surviving with the parents are a brother, Mark [FLYNN], and several aunts and uncles, including Mrs. Imogene SHEDLOCK, Mrs. Josephine McCLAIN and David and William FLYNN, all of the Rochester area. A brother, Bruce R. FLYNN, died in 1951. Final rites will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. Allen JUMP officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester Citizens cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.1 |

Mr. Swango, who had resided in Fulton county his entire life, lived at 720 East 12th street in Rochester. He had been seriously ill the past eight weeks. Born Oct. 24, 1884, near Kewanna, he was the son of Henry and Ellen RICKMAN SWANGO. He was married twice, first to Sara POFFENBERGER. Surviving children from this marriage are Mrs. Marie FLYNN, Willie SWANGO and Mrs. Darlene CARPENTER, all of Rochester. Two children preceded in death. His second marriage was on Dec. 19, 1925, to Edna Marie GOOD. She survives along with four children, Frederick [SWANGO], Junior Eugene [SWANG], Mrs. Virginia Belle McFARLAND and Evelyn Marie [SWANGO], all of Rochester, and a half-brother, Ed [SWANGO], Rochester. Two children and another brother, Lewis [SWANGO], preceded in death. Five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. Lloyd POWELL officiating. Burial will be made in the Citizens cemetery.
