SWYGERT, judge of the Northern Indiana Federal Court District, died at 1 p.m. Saturday at her home in Akron. She had been ill for the past seven years. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Akron Methodist Church, Rev. Claude FAWNS officiating. Burial will be in Akron cemetery. Mrs. Swygert, born July 9, 1884, in Miami County, was a member of the Gilead Methodist church, the Gilead W.S.C.S. and the Gilead Home Ec Club. She was the daughter of Joseph and Olivia TRACY HOOVER. On May 27, 1903, she was married to Irvin SWYGERT, who survives. Surviving besides the husband and son, are two brothers, Charles HOOVER of Kokomo and Otto HOOVER of Elkhart, and a grandchild. The body will be at the Moyer & Haupert Funeral Home in Akron until an hour before the service.13 |

Elizabeth Ann [SEARS], daughter of Isaac and Lydia SEARS was born in Butler county, Ohio, on March 15, 1863. She was united in marriage with Ed CURTIS on October20, 1892. The deceased had been a member of the Akron Methodist church since 1880. The survivors are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Frank FOUTS, of Macy; a step-son, Mark W. CURTIS, of Prentice, Wis; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A step-son, Vine CURTIS, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Walter SIPES, both residents of Rochester, preceded Mrs. Curtis in death a number of years ago. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, one o’clock, at the Akron Methodist church, Rev. Julius PFIEFFER will officiate. Interment will be made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery near Akron.4 |

John D. KRUWEL, Tuesday evening. The first couple to apply at the parsonage to have the wedding vows solemnized were Miss Buelah Irene CURTIS, of Akron, and Frank FOUTS, of Macy. The final words had not been said when a knock was heard at the door and another couple entered bent on the same errand. When Rev. Kruwel asked the bride-to-be in regard to her identity, he was much surprised to find that her name was also Curtis. The two girls were not related and before this time, had never met. Miss Anna Gertrude CURTIS is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Clark Bruce CURTIS, of Delong. Miss Buelah Irene Curtis is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Edward CURTIS, of Akron. Frank FOUTS, the husband of Miss Irene Curtis, is a well known and highly respected young man of Macy, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph FOUTS. Oscar Carl FAY is a resident of Delong and for the last few years has been in Portsmouth, Ohio, where he was attending school. Mr. & Mrs. Oscar Fay will reside on a farm in Ohio, where he will be employed. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Fouts will reside on a farm near Macy, Ind. - - - - - -.6 |

Rites are pending at Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home, Rochester. Wednesday, May 16, 1990 Beulah Fouts Elkins Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home, Rochester, for Beulah Irene ELKINS, 95, formerly of Rt. 1, Macy. The Rev. David WELSH will officiate, and burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made to the Macy Christian Church. Mrs. Elkins died at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday in Life Care Center of Rochester. She was born Nov. 21, 1894 in Akron to Edwin and Elizabeth Ann SEARS CURTIS. On Feb. 11, 1913 she married Frank FOUTS, who died April 28, 1959. On April 7, 1972 in Macy she married Alba W. ELKINS, who died Oct. 5, 1981. She was a member of the Macy Christian Church and the Macy Eastern Star. Surviving are a daughter, Marjorie FIELDS, Peru; two sons, Willis FOUTS, Sebring, Fla., and Harold FOUTS, Avon Park, Fla; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and six great- great-grandchildren. Preceding in death were a sister, Mae SIPE, two brothers, Vine and Mark CURTIS, and a grandchild.11 |

He had suffered a stroke in the barn at his farm about 8 p.m. Monday. A Macy resident for 66 years, Mr. Fouts was born in Sutton, Mass., on Jan. 29, 1888, to Joseph and Delilah CLEMANS FOUTS. He moved to the Macy vicinity from Boston. On Feb. 11, 1913, he was married in Rochester to Beulah Irene CURTIS, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William (Marjorie) FIELDS, Peru; two sons, Harold [FOUTS], Rochester, and Willis [FOUTS], Macy; seven grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Faye ROBINSON, West Haven, Conn. A brother, Walter Stratton [FOUTS], preceded him in death. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Macy Christian church with the church pastor, the Rev. I. T. ROGERS, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery at Mexico. Friends may call at Zimmerman Brothers fneral home here aftr noon Wednesday. The body will lie in state at the church Thursday from 1 p.m. until the services.4 |

Obit | Vine Harlan's obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 8 July 1926: Vine CURTIS, age 45 years, well known Wall Street meat market proprietor, passed away at his residence on East Ninth street at nine o’clock Thursday morning. Death resulted from multiple neuritis, a disease from which the deceased had suffered for the past seven years. Vine Curtis, son of Edwin and Jennie BROWN CURTIS, was born on a farm east of Athens on June 21st, 1881, his mother having preceded him in death several years ago. The deceased was a member of the local order of Eagles, and had been engaged in the meat market business in this city for the past twenty years. On June 21st, 1911 Vine Curtis was united in marriage to Frances Lay WATSON. Surviving the wife are the following children: Vine Harlan [CURTIS], Jr., Percy Watson [CURTIS] and Frances [CURTIS]. Katherine May [CURTIS] preceded her father in death in 1919. Besides the aged father, Edwin J. CURTIS, deceased leaves a brother, Mark [CURTIS], residing at Brantwood, Wis., and two sisters, Mrs. Frank FOUTS, of Macy, and Mrs. Daisy MERLEY, of Akron. Funeral arrangements have not been definitely arranged, but it is thought services will be held Saturday afternoon with the Order of Eagles in charge and Rev. Jas. W. NIVEN officiating. Burial will be made in I.O.O.F. cemetery.1 |

Obit | Ida Z.'s obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 5 January 1931: Funeral services for Mrs. Ida HOOVER, 72, who died Saturday afternoon at her home in Congress Park, Ill., will be held at the home of her brother, Charles Harter, west of Akron Tuesday morning at 10:30. Mrs. Hoover had been an invalid for several years, a victim of paralysis. Ida [HARTER], daughter of Frederick and Lucinda HARTER, was born west of Akron Sept. 16, 1859. In January, 1876, she was united in marriage to Absolom HOOVER, who died in 1916. Survivors are one brother, Charles HARTER, of Akron, one daughter, Mrs. Inez BLOOM, of Congress Park, Ill., four gradchildren and one great-grandchild. Trella [HARTER] and Otis HARTER, of Rochester, are cousins of the deceased. The body will arrive in Rochester late tonight and funeral services will be in charge of Rev. Clyde MILLER, pastor of the Akron M.E. church. Burial will be made in the Akron I.O.O.F. cemetery.3 |
